Position Summary

USA Compression is seeking a motivated Entry-Level PLC Programmer to join our Controls Engineering team. This position is ideal for someone looking to begin or grow a career in industrial automation. Working alongside experienced engineers and technicians, you will assist with PLC programming, panel testing, system troubleshooting, and commissioning activities while gaining hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley control systems.

This role offers excellent opportunities for technical growth in a collaborative, safety-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with PLC programming, testing, and troubleshooting under the guidance of senior engineers.

  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, loop sheets, and P&IDs.

  • Support modifications to existing Allen-Bradley Studio 5000 (ControlLogix and CompactLogix) programs.

  • Participate in panel testing, heat testing, and factory acceptance testing (FAT).

  • Perform I/O checkout and verify field devices during startup and commissioning.

  • Assist with troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs, instrumentation, and electrical control systems.

  • Update electrical drawings using AutoCAD Electrical as needed.

  • Document programming changes, test results, and project revisions.

  • Work closely with engineering, field service, and project management teams to ensure successful project execution.

  • Follow all company safety policies and industry best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.

  • 0-3 years of experience in PLC programming, industrial automation, or a related field.

  • Recent graduates with relevant coursework, internships, or hands-on project experience are encouraged to apply.

  • Basic understanding of PLC programming principles and industrial control systems.

  • Familiarity with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation platforms is preferred.

  • Ability to read electrical schematics and P&IDs.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to learn.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Willingness to travel occasionally for startup and commissioning activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Internship, co-op, or laboratory experience with PLCs or industrial automation.

  • Exposure to Allen-Bradley Studio 5000 or RSLogix software.

  • Familiarity with Red Lion HMIs and Crimson software.

  • Basic knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as EtherNet/IP or Modbus.

  • Understanding of industrial instrumentation, motors, valves, and process control systems.

  • Experience using AutoCAD Electrical or similar electrical drafting software.

  • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and safe work practices.
