Job description

As the School Building Leader for the Summer Education Program , you'll oversee and manage the daily operation of Jawonio's Summer Education Program including student curriculum, IEP implementation and activities, and staff. The Summer Education Program is a NYS approved extended school year program for students with developmental disabilities. The 2026 ESY program is K-5th Grade (2-3 classrooms).
Dates: Actual Program Dates: July 6th* through August 14th 2026 plus three days of training on June 30th, July 1st, and July 2nd. (*Program will not be in operation on July 3rd)
Hours: 8:30am - 4:30pm and one evening for an end of summer event (date not decided yet)
JOB PURPOSE: Under direction of Director of Educational Services, carries out orientation, training, and supervision of employees to make them fully aware of agency and department missions and ensures employees in summer education program fulfill their expected duties.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Elements
  1. Supervises the summer education program staff; meets with individual staff to review schedules and address specific issues related to classroom experiences and activities.
  2. Oversees activities both on campus and in the community. Provides guidance, coaching, and direct involvement as needed or appropriate.
  3. Carries out a variety of leadership functions including orientation and training of new employees, discipline, communication with parents, program-wide schedules and activities and weekly staff meetings.
  4. Collaborates with Division Director, Educational and Clinical Services for teacher performance appraisals, and other related employee relation activities and actions. Reviews aide performance appraisals with teachers.
  5. Maintains a system of communication with program staff, other agency departments, and families to keep them current about program activities and to respond to issues as they arise.

BACKGROUND/FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING: Masters Degree plus experience in a school setting. Must have special education teaching certification and experience. New York State SBL (SAS) or SDL (SDA) certification required. New York State SBL Internship candidate (supervision provided).
Additional Requirements:
  • Daily access to an automobile is required. A valid NY State Driver's License and ability to drive and driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage are required.
  • Must be cleared and maintain acceptable record under the NYS mandated criminal background check processes.
  • Must be clear and maintain an acceptable record under the Medicaid Fraud & Abuse clearance process.
