Job description

Software Intern - Summer 2027
Program Duration: End of May - Early August
Location: Pella, IA  (on-site) or Urbandale, IA (on-site)

Pella Corporation is seeking motivated undergraduate students for our Software Internship in Pella, Iowa.

Join our growing digital team and gain hands-on experience helping build digital products and solutions that support both our customers and business operations. This internship provides opportunities to work alongside experienced developers, product managers, and designers while contributing to meaningful projects in a collaborative environment.

Throughout the summer, interns gain practical experience, build professional networks, and develop technical and professional skills that prepare them for future careers in software development and technology.

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong academic standing
  • Basic knowledge of version control tools such as Git and GitHub
  • Familiarity with one or more programming languages such as JavaScript, Java, Python, C++, or similar technologies
  • Experience through coursework, personal projects, internships, or training related to software development
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to learn new technologies and concepts
     

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to web application development concepts
  • Familiarity with front-end, back-end, or full-stack development principles
  • Experience working on team-based projects through coursework, extracurricular activities, or internships
  • Hands-on experience using Claude Code or a similar LLM agent to help define tasks and implement solutions.

Compensation: The starting pay rate for this position is $27.25 per hour. Compensation for this role is established through Pella Corporation's internship program. Eligible participants may receive transition assistance in accordance with company policies and program guidelines.

As a Software Intern, you will support the development and delivery of digital solutions through project work and collaboration with cross-functional teams. Working alongside experienced professionals, you'll gain exposure to modern software development practices while contributing to real business initiatives.

Responsibilities are similar to what we expect of entry-level software professionals who join Pella after graduation.

As a Software Intern, you may:

  • Assist with the development and deployment of web-based applications and digital solutions
  • Learn and apply modern software development practices, including version control, testing, and CI/CD processes
  • Collaborate with developers and technical leads to create and integrate APIs, services, and application features
  • Partner with Product and Design teams to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, including standups, sprint planning, and retrospectives
  • Support the delivery of new features and enhancements through iterative development practices
