Job description

Do you love connecting with people and sharing your passion with others?

We are looking for a Summer Camp Unit Leader to join our team at the Y! We spend our days positively impacting the summer camp community around us. We help children reach their potential, enact age appropriate goals, and we change lives in our Y community.

Multiple Locations Available: Mount Laurel YMCA, Hillside Elementary, and Steinhauer Elementary in Maple Shade

What is needed for this job:

  • At least 18 years old.ย 
  • High school graduate or equivalent.ย 
  • Or enrolled in a minimum of 2 years of child development coursework approved by state licensing requirements.
  • Experience working with children and at least two seasons working as a Y Camp Counselor or as a counselor in a comparable program.
  • Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and experience working with children.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team.ย 
  • Ability to deal effectively with inappropriate behavior and recognize hazard situations.ย 

The responsibilities we will trust you with:

  • Monitor and train staff to ensure effective implementation of programs and activities. Ensure staff adherence to all policies and procedures. Coach and train staff in providing quality camping experience.ย 
  • Plan and oversee the implementation of a variety of camp activities; ensure activities are age appropriate and contribute to the overall growth and development of the campers.
  • Ability to identify, address, and redirect/correct inappropriate behavior.
  • Ensure appropriate behavior of campers and staff to avoid the risk of accidents.
  • Assist in maintaining effective communication with parents/guardians regarding camper and camp activities.ย
