SUMMARY

The Puerto Rican Action Board (PRAB) is a comprehensive human services organization based in Middlesex County, New Jersey. We are the primary institution that provides diverse bilingual/multicultural services to the entire Central New Jersey community. Each year, we serve approximately 30,000 people in the region. Our mission is to equip diverse individuals and families in Central New Jersey to achieve personal, family, and community development. Through our innovative early childhood, youth, family, and community programs, individuals and families access the tools and resources they need to grow into productive, self-sufficient people. 

AMARD&V Summer currently has some great opportunities for summer Art program recreation as youth counselors. These positions are excellent opportunities to gain valuable experience in working in a multicultural art curriculum-based summer program alongside expert staff. The AMARD &V summer program is seeking individuals that will be able to perform the summer program counselors’ duties, through demonstration of leadership and guidance.  AMARD &V summer program counselors will be assigned to work with youth ages 10-16 years of age in participating in a five-week art-based summer program. The AMARD &V summer program is seeking college students currently attending Rutgers University to execute the following summer program counselors’ duties:

RESPONSIBILITIES

Program daily operation and expectations.

Program Management

  • The selected summer counselors are expected to maintain professional appearance, adhere to uniform requirements, strong organizational and communication skills, be comfortable working with youth and communicate well with parents and team members.
  • AMARD&V summer program counselors should demonstrate the ability to apply problem-solving and conflict resolution skills through their daily interaction with the camp participants. 
  • Oversee the coordination, integration, and delivery of the AMARD&V program efforts, ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of program service delivery

Program Operations

  • Ensure effective streamlined processes and protocols for maximum program efficiency
  • Maintain program record keeping and data retrieval systems
  • Maintain AMARD&V’s Crisis Management, and safety plan
  • Collaborate with other staff on programming events and special projects
  • AMARD &V summer program counselors should demonstrate the ability to apply problem-solving and conflict resolution skills through their daily interaction with the camp participants. 
  • AMARD &V summer counselors will be responsible for planning, leading and implementing core and noncore programs experiences for the program participants in a small and large group setting.
  • AMARD &V summer program counselors will also be responsible for the general safety and development, growth and skills achievement of the participants in his/her group.
  • Ensure adherence to AMARD&V policy for the discipline and care of students, as per DCP&P guidelines
  •  AMARD &V summer program counselors will be responsible for ensuring the program participant safety during the program activities and when field trips are in sessions.
  • AMARD &V is seeking individuals that will engage the program participants in an art curriculum guided activities while striving for building rapport and offer guidance. AMARD&V summer counselors are expected to promote cultural competency, social justice, and human rights.
  • We are seeking candidates who will offer a learning experience that can promote respect for religion, race, ethnicity and sexual identity.
  • The summer program counselors will be trained and expected to keep the records of attendance, monitor and record of breakfast, snacks, and meals daily, and during the five weeks sessions
  • Other responsibilities including but not limited to providing direct support to artist and junior artists on a daily basis for the implementation of program curriculum, assisting with the gathering of data and levels of services for reporting purposes.
  • AMARD&V summer program counselors are required to report issues and challenges pertaining to participants ‘mental health to the available clinicians/ mental health providers for immediate intervention.
  • AMARD &V summer program counselors are expected to possess knowledge of working with youth, demonstrate flexibility, adaptability and a strong desire to follow the directives of the AMARD &V program administrators and manager.
  • QUALIFICATIONS
  • AMARD&V summer program counselors are available for undergraduate students currently attending any University.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License
  • Experience developing and administering program priorities and plans
  • Experience working with youth, and teams, including coaching, leveraging, and collaboration
  • Experience creating an atmosphere of positive and appropriate discipline
  • Experience communicating program work and achievements
  • Experience with project development and management
  • Experience working with a multi-faceted, automated accounting system

  • Compensation and Hours
  • This is an hourly position with an hourly rate of $15.92
  • Require full participation in a 5 consecutive week experience between June 11, 2026, through July 01, 2026
  • Attend and actively participate in a mandatory artist, fellows and staff training held in June 11, 13 and 27, 2026.
  • Participate in all other program related activities such as the fellow training, scheduled weekly meetings, and the final program presentation. And the staff/fellow “clean-up day.”
