Job description

Holy Cross Church in Garrett Park MD, seeks a TENOR SECTION LEADER starting in September.

The TENOR Section Leader is a paid choral position alongside a volunteer choir. Our volunteer choir is made up of dedicated parishioners- some professionals, semi-professional singers.

The position reports to the Director of Music.

Schedule

• Sunday Masses: 9:30 a.m. with an 8:45 a.m. call for warm-up and run- through.

• Thursday rehearsals: 7:00–8:45 p.m. These typically run September through the beginning of June.

• Additional Masses: as scheduled and mutually agreed, including

Christmas, Holy Week, Easter, and occasional feast days. Additional payment. Section Leaders are notified of these dates well in advance.

Compensation commensurate with experience and qualification

• $120 per Mass

• $100 per rehearsal

Qualifications

• Demonstrable vocal training in voice (collegiate study, conservatory training, or equivalent

professional experience).

• Strong sight-reading skills and fluency with standard choral notation.

• Reliability, professionalism, and a collaborative posture toward volunteer choristers.

Singers of all faith backgrounds are welcome.

We seek committed singers that love to sing, with an interest in sacred music who will be a good fit for the Catholic and communal culture of our choir.

Repertoire

•Typically, 4-5 congregation hymns per Mass, regular mass parts, and one traditional anthem with choir- sometimes solos, and trios with the other professional section leaders etc.

•Masses usually last 50-60 minutes.

•The employment usually runs September to June (with cantor opportunities as needed during summer). The position will be extended from year to year.
