Description:

Contribute to the legacy of the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception by joining us as we bring Christ to the heart of Denver. The history of the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception is inseparable from the history of Denver, a visible sign of the Catholic faith’s presence in Colorado and the West for over 100 years.


The Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Denver is currently seeking a part time, staff singer to join our Choir. This is a non-benefits eligible position.


The Cathedral Choir season runs from September 9, 2026 to May 30, 2027.


Staff Singers attend the following regularly scheduled calls during the choir season:

  • Wednesday evening rehearsal from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
  • Sunday morning rehearsal at 9:45 AM for the 10:30 AM Mass


Staff Singers are required to attend the following additional calls:

  • Lessons and Carols, December 13, 2026 at 3:00 PM (1:45 PM call)
  • Midnight Mass, December 24, 2026 at 11:30 PM (10:45 PM call)
  • Christmas Day, December 25, 2026 at 10:30 AM (10:15 AM call)
  • Holy Thursday, March 25, 2027 at 5:30 PM (4:45 PM call)
  • Good Friday, March 26, 2027 at 3:00 PM (2:15 PM call)
  • Easter Vigil, March 27, 2027 at 8:00 or 8:30 PM (exact start/call time TBA)
  • Easter Day, March 28, 2027 at 10:30 AM (9:45 AM call)

Expectations

  • Staff Singers arrive early to all scheduled calls.
  • Staff Singers act as musical leaders within their section. 
  • Staff Singers foster a supportive and positive environment within the choir.
  • Staff Singers dress appropriately to reflect the dignity and reverence of Liturgy (Business casual or professional attire. No shorts, sweatpants, t-shirts, or other overly casual attire). 

Attendance

  • Staff Singers maintain a minimum of 90% attendance, allowing for approximately 8 absences during the choir season. 
  • Staff Singers give at least two weeks’ notice (via email) of planned absences.
  • Staff Singers attend all required additional calls. 


Compensation

The standard rate is $70 per call.

Several occasions are paid at a higher rate, these are:

  • Lessons and Carols (Dec. 13): 1.5 calls
  • Midnight Mass (Dec. 24-25): 2 calls
  • Christmas Day (Dec. 25): 1.5 calls
  • Holy Thursday (Mar. 25): 1.5 calls
  • Good Friday (Mar. 26): 1.5 calls
  • Easter Vigil (Mar. 27): 2 calls

Calls missed for any reason are not paid. 

Requirements:
  • The candidate should be able to sight read music at a professional level.
  • The candidate should demonstrate their voice with expressivity and versatility.
  • The candidate should be familiar with various eras of music and be able to modify their voice accordingly.
  • Refrain from promotion or approval of, or the living out of, and conduct or lifestyle that would reflect discredit or disgrace on, or cause scandal in relationship to, the Archdiocese of Denver, or considered to be in contradiction with Catholic doctrine or morals.
