L'Ecole de technologie superieure (ETS) is a rapidly evolving university in engineering and technology located in downtown Montreal. ETS offers undergraduate and graduate programs focused on applied engineering as well as state-of-the-art research infrastructure including quantum computers: one built by Anyon Systems, available via Calcul Quebec, and another built by IBM via Pinq2. ETS is also home to the Centech, a business incubator, offering support services for researchers wishing to commercialize their research.

Your work will make a tangible contribution to scientific progress and the development of Quebec's productivity and competitiveness, as well as the training of a highly qualified workforce.

Ecole de technologie superieure, one of Canada's top three engineering research and teaching institutions, is inviting applications for a MEIE Research Chair in Quantum Computing. MEIE Research Chair in Quantum Computing

This five-year Research Chair is worth $100,000 per year, and contributes to the full funding of the Chairholder's research work.

The incumbent must have demonstrated significant research potential, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively in interdisciplinary research teams and with industry.

The position is specifically aimed at a promising researcher with proven expertise in the following areas:

  • variational quantum algorithms (VQA);
  • quantum approximate optimization (QAOA);
  • error robustness of NISQ devices;
  • training effects of variational circuits (including their limitations);
  • design of hybrid ansatz adapted to experimental quantum architectures, in particular atomic systems such as trapped ions or neutral atoms.

Then consideration for complementary fields, including :

  • quantum machine learning;
  • quantum arches;
  • tensor networks;
  • hybrid quantum-classical techniques for NISQ devices.

  • Must hold a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in engineering or a related field. An engineering degree is an asset.
  • Must have industry experience or experience conducting research in close collaboration with industry (if the candidate does not have related industry experience, then such experience may be substituted by solid R&D experience, or the candidate must agree to acquire such experience through an industrial practicum).
  • Must demonstrate excellent research skills;
  • Must demonstrate a strong interest in teaching;
  • Be proficient in French (oral and written), in compliance with the ETS Language Policy (in French), or demonstrate a willingness to learn French and enter into a French training program with the support of ETS.
