The Opportunity

At Maureen Joy Charter School, we foster a K-8 learning environment that thrives on supporting the whole child and dedication to our families. We are seeking dependable, caring substitute teachers to provide classroom coverage on an as-needed basis. Substitute teachers maintain a safe, positive, and productive learning environment while implementing lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher. Successful substitutes are adaptable, professional, and committed to supporting students and school staff. Assignments may range from partial-day to full-day coverage and may occur with advance notice or on short notice based on school needs.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Arrive on time and prepared for assigned teaching responsibilities.

  • Follow lesson plans and instructional materials left by the classroom teacher.

  • Maintain a safe, respectful, and orderly classroom environment.

  • Supervise students throughout the school day, including transitions and other assigned duties.

  • Take attendance and follow school procedures for reporting absences.

  • Communicate with the appropriate school leaders regarding questions, concerns, or student needs.

  • Leave the classroom organized and provide notes for the classroom teacher regarding the day's activities.

  • Follow school policies, procedures, and emergency protocols.

  • Perform other reasonable duties related to the substitute assignment as directed by school administration.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Effective classroom management skills.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Successful completion of all required background checks and onboarding requirements.

Preferred

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree.

Work Schedule

This is an as-needed position. Work schedules vary based on staffing needs, and no minimum number of assignments is guaranteed. Substitutes may accept or decline assignments based on their availability.

Reporting Relationship
Contracted substitute teachers report to the Director of Operations (DOO). The DOO is responsible for coordinating substitute assignments, communicating scheduling needs, and serving as the primary point of contact for substitute teachers.
$160 - $160 a day
Substitute teachers are compensated at a rate of $160 per full day worked. Partial day assignments may be compensated at a prorated rate. Compensation is provided only for accepted and completed assignments.
