Journey Substation Relay Technician

The City of Loveland serves almost forty thousand homes and more than 4,000 businesses with care, foresight, and integrity. The city's Electric Utility Division is at the forefront of grid transformation.
In keeping with its mission, Loveland is now looking to onboard a Journey Substation Relay Technician. This person will be tasked with installing, maintaining, calibrating, troubleshooting and repairs on electronic, electrical, mechanical, and electro-mechanical equipment and systems in a substation environment. The role works on protective relaying, substation control systems, SCADA, power transformers, metal-clad switchgear, and other substation-related equipment. The position also supports vendor and contractor coordination, reporting, scheduling, inspection, testing, and final commissioning.
The salary range for this position is $102,821.47 to $149,091.28 annually based on experience with competitive benefit package.
Qualifications include:
  • High school diploma or GED plus completion of an approved 4-year substation apprentice or Relay Testing Apprentice program with certification.
  • 1 year working in a substation environment with experience in project management, construction, operations, testing, and maintaining substation equipment including protective relaying and SCADA equipment. 3 years is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Additional college, vocational, or industry courses in electrical/electronic theory, lab work, associated mathematics, and communication systems OR Associate's degree in Electric or Electronic Sciences is preferred.
