Subsidiary Rights information

What does a subsidiary rights specialist do?

A Subsidiary Rights job involves managing the licensing and distribution of a book’s rights beyond its primary publication. This includes selling rights for translations, audiobooks, film/TV adaptations, book clubs, and other formats to maximize revenue and exposure. Professionals in this role negotiate contracts, track royalties, and collaborate with literary agents, publishers, and production companies to expand a book’s reach.

What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of a subsidiary rights specialist?

Professionals in Subsidiary Rights regularly review and negotiate contracts, track rights sold or available for licensing, and coordinate with international publishers and literary agents. You'll often prepare rights guides, handle inquiries regarding translation and adaptation rights, and manage administrative tasks like updating rights management systems. Collaboration with editorial, legal, and sales teams is common to ensure a unified approach to rights strategy. This dynamic environment offers a mix of independent work and teamwork, making it a rewarding choice for those interested in the business side of publishing.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in subsidiary rights?

To excel in Subsidiary Rights, you need a strong background in contract negotiation, publishing industry knowledge, and rights management, often supported by a degree in English, publishing, or a related field. Familiarity with rights management databases, licensing platforms, and sometimes language skills or copyright law certification are valuable technical assets. Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to build professional relationships set top candidates apart. These skills are crucial for successfully securing rights deals, protecting intellectual property, and maximizing revenue for publishers.

What You'll Do
This is a hands-on, high-impact role for a data-and-tools enthusiast who wants to modernise how a world-class pricing and commercial team works. You'll sit primarily on the Pricing & Yield team but operate as a shared analytical and enablement resource for other key Functionals Areas, working especially closely with Product, Sales and Ticketing. You'll spearhead the team's adoption of AI, own our dashboards in Omni, and take on the ad-hoc analytical work that helps the whole team make smarter, faster decisions for one of the world's biggest hospitality programs.

AI Adoption & Innovation

  • Spearhead the team's uptake of AI solutions - identify high-value use cases, pilot tools, and design practical rollout plans that raise productivity across Pricing, Product, and Ticketing.
  • Act as the team's AI champion: evaluate emerging tools, build repeatable workflows, and coach colleagues so adoption sticks.

Dashboards & Business Intelligence (Omni)

  • Be the team's Omni expert - design, build, and maintain pricing and inventory dashboards that give Product, Ticketing, Finance, and leadership real-time visibility into performance.
  • Translate data into clear, decision-ready insights, summaries, and leadership-ready visuals.

Ad-hoc Analytics & Cross-Functional Support

  • Deliver ad-hoc analytical work for the wider Commercial Strategy team, Product, and Ticketing - turning open-ended questions into clear answers.
  • Support Business Strategy & Analytics initiatives (via your dotted-line partnership) with data, reporting, and analysis, and support other Functional Areas as needed

Data & Inventory Management

  • Collect, validate, and maintain product, inventory, and pricing data across Omni, Airtable, and Optimo.
  • Run regular audits and reconciliations of asset inventory to ensure pricing and availability are accurately reflected, and help track allocations to support internal liability tracking.

Process Documentation & Automation

  • Document workflows, inventory processes, and key definitions to drive consistency across teams and support onboarding.
  • Identify and resolve data inconsistencies across systems, and build low-code automations to streamline repetitive work.

You Have These

  • 2-4 years of experience in data analysis, business intelligence, product/pricing operations, or analytics - ideally within hospitality, live events, sports, or travel.
  • Strong dashboard-building skills in Omni (or Tableau, Power BI, or similar).
  • Genuine enthusiasm and aptitude for AI tools, with a desire to lead their adoption; hands-on experience piloting or rolling out AI or automation is a strong plus.
  • Proficiency in Airtable and Excel/Google Sheets; SQL a plus.
  • Strong analytical mindset - able to connect the dots between pricing, sales performance, and inventory health.
  • Excellent communication skills - able to translate data into clear stories for non-technical teams.
  • Comfortable working autonomously and cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment with shifting timelines.
  • Curiosity, adaptability, and an entrepreneurial, solution-focused mindset.

We'd Love If You Also Have These

  • Experience working on global hospitality programs or large-scale events.
  • Comfort with low-code automation tools for process automation.
  • Exposure to pricing or revenue-management tools and concepts.
  • Experience in a start-up-like or transformation environment where processes are evolving.

Working Conditions

  • Permanent position - Los Angeles.
  • Working hours: 9am - 5pm, Monday to Friday (with flexibility required around key Games milestones).
  • Some travel may be required.
