26WD100656, Software Development Manager

Position Overview

Autodesk is looking for an experienced Software Development Manager to lead a high-performing engineering team within the Growth Experience Technology (GET) organization. The team builds and operates the post-purchase account experience - the customer-facing platforms that power account management, subscription management, personalization, and experimentation for customers after they've purchased. This includes the Account Portal, voluntary churn and retention flows, and the personalization/experimentation infrastructure that underpins them.

In this role, you will lead, hire, nurture, and grow a team of talented developers while staying close to technology. You will provide technical direction, review designs, guide delivery, develop proof of concepts when needed, and collaborate closely with Architects, Product Managers, Program Managers, and cross-functional engineering teams. We are looking for a hands-on, technology-forward engineering leader who embraces AI-assisted development, modern engineering practices, and technology disruption. The ideal candidate is creative, innovative, curious, and motivated to go above and beyond to deliver meaningful customer and business impact.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, hire, nurture, and develop a team of high-performing software developers

  • Build an inclusive, collaborative, ownership-driven engineering culture focused on accountability and continuous learning

  • Manage performance, career development, coaching, onboarding, and team growth

  • Create clarity around team priorities, roles, responsibilities, expectations, and success measures

  • Drive delivery planning and execution across quarterly and multi-quarter initiatives, with a durable multi-quarter roadmap and LOE-backed solution plans rather than sprint-to-sprint re-scoping

  • Collaborate with Product, Program, Architecture, Design, and other engineering teams to translate business goals into technical execution plans

  • Manage dependencies, risks, priorities, and trade-offs while communicating progress clearly to stakeholders

  • Remove technical, organizational, and process blockers to help teams deliver high-quality software predictably

  • Provide technical guidance for applications and services built using JavaScript, React, Node.js, Express, databases, AWS, and serverless technologies

  • Own the account portal's migration and evolution on Experience Builder (from legacy "experience service" architecture)

  • Guide the team's experimentation platform work - feature flagging and A/B testing via LaunchDarkly, identity/session handling via Oxygen ID and 3-legged OAuth token flows

  • Guide personalization capability for post-purchase account experiences - ML-driven and rules-driven surfaces (e.g., tailored account/learn content, subscription recommendations)

  • Provide technical direction for conversational-AI-powered account flows (e.g., AI-assisted cancellation/retention experiences), including safe experiment ramps, event instrumentation, and cross-system fallback handling (support/sales handoff)

  • Participate in architecture discussions, design reviews, code reviews, and technical decision-making

  • Partner with architects and senior developers to ensure scalable, maintainable, reliable, and secure system design

  • Promote strong engineering practices including automated testing, CI/CD, secure coding, observability, operational excellence, and production readiness

  • Support and improve build, deployment, and release processes using Jenkins and modern CI/CD pipelines

  • Develop or guide proof of concepts to validate new ideas, technologies, and architectural approaches

  • Champion responsible adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices, coding assistants, automation tools, and LLM-based development workflows

  • Encourage practical use of tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, and similar AI-assisted coding platforms

  • Identify opportunities to use AI to improve engineering velocity, code quality, testing, documentation, debugging, and operational efficiency - including applying it to customer-facing personalization and experimentation, not just internal dev workflows

  • Foster creative and innovative thinking, encouraging the team to go beyond basic execution and continuously improve

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including hands-on development and production software delivery

  • 2-4 years of experience in engineering leadership, people management, or technical team leadership

  • Experience hiring, mentoring, nurturing, and developing high-performing engineering teams

  • Strong hands-on background in JavaScript, React, Node.js, Express or similar modern web application development

  • Experience working with databases and designing data-driven applications

  • Experience with AWS cloud services and exposure to serverless architectures

  • Experience with CI/CD practices and tools such as Jenkins, Argo CD

  • Strong understanding of software design, code quality, design reviews, code reviews, and engineering best practices

  • Experience collaborating with Architects, Product Managers, Program Managers, and cross-functional engineering teams

  • Ability to manage delivery, priorities, dependencies, risks, and stakeholder expectations

  • Strong communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and execution skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building customer-facing account management, subscription management, commerce, or SaaS platforms

  • Hands-on or leadership experience with feature-flagging / experimentation platforms (LaunchDarkly or equivalent) and running controlled A/B rollouts on live customer traffic

  • Experience with personalization systems - ML-driven content/recommendation surfaces, or rules-based personalization at scale

  • Experience integrating or overseeing conversational AI / LLM-based customer experiences (e.g., AI-assisted retention, support, or self-service flows), including event instrumentation and safe experiment ramping

  • Familiarity with identity/auth flows for account systems (OAuth, 3-legged token flows, federated identity)

  • Experience designing and operating scalable, reliable, and secure cloud-native applications

  • Hands-on experience developing proof of concepts and evaluating new technologies

  • Familiarity with AWS Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, RDS, S3, CloudFront, ECS, or similar AWS services

  • Experience with automated testing frameworks and quality engineering practices

  • Experience with GitOps and deployment tools such as Argo CD

  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration platforms such as Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, or EKS

  • Experience improving developer productivity through automated build, test, security scan, and deployment pipelines

  • Exposure to infrastructure-as-code or cloud automation tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK

  • Experience with observability, monitoring, logging, incident response, and production support

  • Comfort managing cross-team dependencies with adjacent platform teams (e.g., identity, experimentation infra) where your team is a downstream consumer, not the owner

  • Strong enthusiasm for AI, emerging technologies, and modern software development practices

  • Hands-on experience using AI-assisted coding tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar platforms

  • Experience advocating for responsible AI adoption within engineering teams

  • Ability to balance technical depth, people leadership, delivery execution, and business impact

  • Creative and innovative mindset with a willingness to challenge the status quo and help teams go above and beyond
