Chaplin & Gonet, P.C., a well-established law firm specializing in consumer, commercial, healthcare, and insurance subrogation collections, is seeking a Full-Time Legal Assistant for its Richmond, Virginia headquarters.

Responsibilities

·       Communicate directly with General District and Circuit Courts throughout Virginia.

·       Communicate professionally with clients and opposing counsel.

·       Draft legal documents and pleadings, including warrants in debt, deposition notices, subpoenas, motions, notices, and complaints.

·       File court forms through both paper and electronic processes.

·       Locate defendants and assist with obtaining service.

·       Monitor statutes of limitation and other important deadline dates.

·       Prepare warrant dockets for first return dates in General District Court.

·       Prepare trial documents for attorneys and manage new files in General District and Circuit Court matters.

·       Manage Outlook calendars for attorneys, including hearings and trial dates.

·       Use and maintain updates in collections software; experience with JST CollectMax software is helpful.

·       Perform clerical tasks, including data entry, copying, scanning, and faxing.

Qualifications

·       Ability to maintain compliance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

·       Clear, courteous, and professional telephone communication skills.

·       Ability to work with a sense of urgency while maintaining accuracy.

·       Strong ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and outside work-related contacts.

·       Consistent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

·       Ability to collect and analyze information, solve problems, and make sound decisions.

·       Technology-forward mindset with emphasis on Microsoft Office 365.

·       Ability to work independently on secondary assignments.

·       Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
