JOB GOAL:

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
Under limited supervision, the Alumni Mentor supports Study Abroad Advisor with study abroad programming, recruitment activities in person around Kirkwood's campuses as well as virtually utilizing social media, contacting potential applicants, hosting short-term program groups, and program coordination. This position requires cross-cultural awareness, excellent customer service skills, independent judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills, strong organizational skills, excellent communication skills, computer skills, project management skills, and professionalism. The Alumni Mentor will recruit and advise Kirkwood students to join the study abroad program and attend events promoting study abroad programs.
This position location may be for either main campus in Cedar Rapids or KRCUI campus.
The work schedule is flexible Monday through Friday between 8 am to 5 pm with occasional weekends.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist Study Abroad Advisor with study abroad promotion
  • Recruit students for the study abroad program
  • Support students with the application process
  • Conduct class visits to promote study abroad program
  • Support study abroad-related events
  • Collaborate with other Kirkwood departments, such as TRIO and Global Voices, to recruit students for study abroad program
  • Perform other related work duties as assigned

  • Willingness to work evening and weekend hours as requested (rarely).
  • Public presentation skills or experience.
  • Recommended by a Kirkwood study abroad leader and/or Kirkwood faculty member.
  • Foreign language proficiency and/or international living experience
