Art Center Studio Tech- Ceramics (Part-time/Seasonal)

  • Part Time (Part-time/Temporary/Seasonal Status), non-exempt
  • $17.00 - $19.00 per hour (depending on qualifications)
  • Reports to Recreation Supervisor- Arts and Events
  • Located at Eden Prairie Art Center (7650 Equitable Dr., Eden Prairie, MN).
  • Position runs August 2026 - October 2026. Hours are primarily evenings and weekends, depending on studio needs. Approximately 15-20 hours/week.

Responsibilities

The Studio Tech collaborates with the Recreation Specialist—Arts & Events, the Studio Tech Lead, and Art Center instructors to establish and maintain kiln-firing schedules and studio procedures.  The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are:

  • Loading and unloading kilns, recycling clay, mixing glazes and slips, glazing student work, and packaging work for pick-up. Provides excellent customer service to all Art Center patrons and ensures timely turnaround for project pick-up.
  • Keeping the studio clean, organized, and in safe working order by maintaining studio equipment, including kilns, wheels, slab rollers, and other tools.

While these areas are the primary focus of this position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in art degree or related subject and at least one year of ceramics experience required, OR at least two years of ceramics studio tech experience required. B.A. or B.F.A. degree in art or related subject with study in ceramics preferred.
  • Previous ceramics or glass studio experience in an art or educational setting required. Studio Tech experience preferred, including some or all the following; loading/unloading and maintaining Skutt kilns, experience in Cone 6 Oxidation firing, reclaim experience, glass kiln firing experience.
  • Must be able to frequently lift/carry/pull up to 35 lbs.; occasionally lift/carry/pull 35–75 lbs.
  • Candidates must successfully complete and pass the City’s evaluation of the pre-employment process prior to their first day of employment. Pre-employment processes for this position includes professional reference checks, background check, work verification
