Position Specific Summary
The main task is to assist small groups of students as they work through instructor-prepared worksheets; the students are those whose ALEKS scores indicate a need for extra attention in order to keep up with Math 1220, Calculus with PreCalculus I. Undergraduate learning assistantswill work as a team of three in each 50-minute session, and work two or three sessions per week. Other duties include preparing for each session, maintaining attendance records, taking a turn at writing up worksheet solutions, sharing study skills, and meeting weekly with the Department's ULA coordinator. Working in the position requires four or five hours per week, depending on whether the ULA covers two or three sessions. The position pays $17.95 (or current rate) per hour. First preference will be given to applications received by July 31, although positions will remain open until filled. Applications from non-GWU students, incoming freshmen, or those pursuing graduate-level degrees will NOT be considered.
Standard Position Description
The student will provide classroom assistance to professors and/or graduate teaching assistants and promote student success in the relevant course or subject area. Tasks may include: Assisting the instructor with lecture and/or laboratory sessions, grading assignments, taking notes during class, holding office hours, preparation of course materials, and supporting student success by providing leadership and coaching. Special projects or duties may be assigned related to specific office needs.
*Graduate students performing teaching functions or supporting courses with student interaction must be hired through the Office of Graduate Student Assistantships and Fellowships.
