The Campus Support & Intervention Team focuses on behavioral intervention and supports the emotional, physical, and social well-being of students within the campus community. 
The University of Utah seeks a highly motivated, student-centered, and dedicated professional to serve as the Director for Campus Support & Intervention. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students, the Director is responsible for supervising and managing the student support systems by providing a philosophical, developmental, and educational context for student support and intervention on campus. The Director must strategically lead these programs, balancing the needs of individual students with the needs of the community. This position is responsible for providing leadership, training, support and guidance to members of the campus community. The Director will provide support in addressing student support, well-being, and success. Additionally, the Director will serve as the chair of the Behavioral Intervention Team. The Director will provide cross-departmental leadership to ensure that student support processes are being appropriately applied, monitored, and reviewed, while also providing trainings on the student support process for campus community members. The Director will work with the ODOS team and other campus stakeholders to create processes that adhere to national best practice standards. 
Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development, administration and revision process (as appropriate) of departmental policies and procedures and student support and intervention policies and processes consistent with University community standards and professional best practices.
  • Maintains student support records in accordance with all Federal laws and University policies and monitors and ensures compliance with Federal and State laws including the Clery Act, Title IX, and Drug Free Schools.
  • Serves as the chair of the University's Behavioral Intervention Team with administrative units to address and resolve issues including threat assessment strategies.
  • Oversees communication with students, faculty, staff, parents, attorneys, and others regarding student support matters.
  • Provides consultation for students with problems, questions, and/or concerns regarding sexual assault, stalking situations, physical assault, harassment, problems with faculty and staff, etc.
  • Serve as after business hour support for on-call staff through the AD on-call rotation, as part of the ODOS/ORL department response team in the case of an emergency. Thorough response to critical inquiries or needs from families, students, staff, faculty, alumni, and other campus constituents is an expectation along with knowledge of legal issues pertinent to housing and residence life.
  • Directs student programming and learning outcomes in the area of student support and intervention designed to improve student development while achieving institutional objectives. 
  • Develops, implements and analyzes assessment initiatives that foster student success and well-being.
  • Provides educational programming and outreach for the University community including during new student orientation as well as residence life trainings.
  • Prepares/oversees the preparation of departmental publications, statistical and periodic reports.
  • Represents the Office of the Dean of Students on University-wide and Divisional committees as well as University and external agencies as appropriate (e.g. SafeUT).
  • Supervises the Associate Directors for Campus Support & Intervention and provides additional support and supervision for the entire Campus Support & Intervention team including: Case Managers and Resident Outreach Coordinators
  • Represents the Office of the Dean of Students in emergency housing protocols with Sunnyside Apartments.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for one years of related work experience)
  • 8 years of progressively more responsible management experience
  • Demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communications skills required.

  • Evidence of progressive leadership in student affairs
  • Knowledge of and experience with federal, state, and local law and regulations pertaining to students such as the Clery Act, FERPA, and Title IX
  • Strong Interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Able to exercise sound decision-making and judgement
  • Strong problem solving and oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, and to contribute to a welcoming and respectful environment
  • Computer literacy
Preferences
  • Master's degree in student affairs/higher education administration, law, or related field.
  • Knowledge of and experience with nationally recognized best practices in student support administration, including strategic planning and assessment
  • Demonstrated record of career progression in student support administration or case management
  • Supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of strategic planning and student learning outcomes
  • Familiarity with Advocate, the student support and accountability software database or experience with other student case management databases.
  • Experience leading or serving on a Behavioral Intervention Team or Threat Assessment group at a campus-wide level
  • Experience or working knowledge of residence life or housing environments
