About Baton Rouge

Baton Rouge, Louisiana's capital city with a metro area of nearly 800,000 residents, offers the cultural richness of South Louisiana with a cost of living below many comparable markets. Residents enjoy exceptional cuisine, LSU athletics, Gulf Coast recreation, music festivals, and a thriving arts scene, all within a welcoming community. With a growing healthcare and research presence, Baton Rouge offers the opportunity to build a career while enjoying a high quality of life.

About the Laboratory

The laboratory is a multi-specialty private practice providing a full spectrum of anatomic and clinical pathology services for hospitals, surgery centers, and clinical laboratories in Baton Rouge and throughout Southeast Louisiana. Their team of 15 well-respected, board-certified pathologists is looking for a skilled PA to join an existing team of 4 PAs, rotating between our privately owned laboratory, where the majority of specimens are received, grossed, and processed, and one other hospital lab. Both sites offer a wide, balanced range of specimens that range from routine biopsies to complex cancer resections. Between all locations the laboratory processed 93,000 surgical cases last year.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform accurate gross dissection and detailed description of surgical specimens across the full case spectrum — from routine biopsies to complex cancer resections
  • Specimen processing and submission for histologic processing and special studies
  • Rotate between the laboratory's privately owned laboratory (primary grossing site) and a woman's hospital lab, ensuring broad, balanced clinical exposure
  • Collaborate closely with pathologists and technical staff to maintain quality and workflow efficiency
  • Contribute to lab workflow coordination and other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an NAACLS/ASCP-accredited Pathologists' Assistant program
  • PA(ASCP) certification or eligibility to sit for the board exam
  • Ability to work cooperatively within diverse clinical environments
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to build positive working relationships with pathologists and technical staff
  • New graduates or impending graduates are encouraged to apply

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary $78K-145K Depending on Experience, Education, Certification
  • Full comprehensive benefits
  • 401K with match and profit share available after 1 year of service
  • Private practice environment versus a hospital system
  • Broad case volume and specimen diversity across two active sites
