POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Student Affairs, CommunityEngagement, and Opportunity reports directly to the Assistant Dean forAdmissions and Student Affairs. The Director will collaborate with members ofthe Academic Affairs team to provide support for student activities, includingoverseeing studentleadership, student clubs and organizations, organizing and directing majorevents including orientations, white coat ceremonies, and graduation, managingstudent activities, maintaining the budget for the department, and working withstudents to provide referrals for counseling and community services. TheDirector actively participates in short- and long-term strategic planning forthe department, and organizes, develops, documents, and implements bestpractices for the Student Affairs unit that comply with University and COMpolicies and federal, state, and local regulations. The Director is responsiblefor continuous quality improvement of the department, manages data, supervisesstudent affairs staff, and prepares statistical reports for self and others, insupport of the goals of the COM and the University. The Director of StudentAffairs, Community Engagement, and Opportunity provides direction in developinginitiatives focused on student wellness, leadership, and community serviceendeavors.
Additionally, the Director supports a diverse bodyof students, faculty, and staff, and fosters a meaningful culture of respectand inclusivity at the COM. This person will function as the primary liaisonbetween the COM, the DuquesneUniversity's Chief Opportunity, Community Building, and Engagement Officer,and collaborating community partners. The Director will develop, oversee, andimplement the COM pathway program, which was created to provide mentorship andguidance for middle-school and high-school students from lower-resourced urbanPittsburgh schools who have demonstrated an interest and aptitude for pursuinga healthcare-related career. This pathway is an important initiative for theCOM, that is designed to foster the development of a more diverse physicianpopulation to best met the needs of our diverse community.
The position reports to the AssistantDean for Admissions/Student Affairs.
DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Direction and Management 
Participates in the strategic direction ofthe COM, and assists in maintaining, developing, and implementing new programsand services that support or enhance the student experience at the COM, incollaboration with Academic Affairs.
Plans, implements, and markets initiativesand events for students. Manages the day-to-day operations of the StudentAffairs Office including all matters related to student services, disabilityservices, compliance, and student activities.
Provides leadership, coaching, counselingand mentoring for Student Affairs staff, including responsibility for hiring,conducting performance reviews, and providing ongoing performance feedback for StudentAffairs staff.
Represents the COM as the student affairsrepresentative at the university level, as directed.
Oversees budget management of the StudentAffairs department, student government, student clubs and organizations, andother student support services.
Student Affairs 
Works collaboratively with the COMAdmissions Department in the organization and implementation of open houses,accepted student days, and other yield events; actively participates as anadministrative interviewer for student candidate interviews; delivers a studentaffairs presentation for each student interview day.
Advises student class leadership, studentgovernment leadership, and student club/organization leadership with respect toevent management, budgeting, and marketing; advises students interested increating new student organizations.
Collaborates with faculty, academicadvisors, and staff to identify and support students in need; provide servicesand resources to allow them to be successful.
Serves as intake officer for studentcomplaints, gathers information from appropriate resources, investigatesissues, makes recommendations and takes action across various levels of theorganization to resolve a variety of academic or professionalism issues and complaints.
Determines student needs in partnershipwith COM leadership; evaluates student needs through focus groups, annualstudent satisfaction surveys, and programming surveys to develop responsiveprograms.
Represents COM Student Affairs at numerousadmissions and program events annually.
Events Management
Is responsible for planning, participatingin making key decisions, and providing oversight for the logistics for studentorientations, white coat ceremonies, graduations, and other student or school-relatedevents. 
Marketing 
Provides guidance and insight on contentand message for the development of marketing pieces regarding studentrecruiting, student events and other resources, in partnership with theAssistant Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs, and the DU Division ofMarketing and Communications (DMC).
Community Engagement andOpportunity 
In collaboration with COM seniorleadership, implements a strategy for holistic recruitment and admissions tothe COM program.
Develops and implements pertinenteducation and training programs to meet the needs of key personnel, COMfaculty, and other staff, related to the elements of cultural humility andinclusivity in the COM program.
Acts as the primary liaison between theCOM and the collaborating partners. Represents the COM in the community, andwhile working with community contacts and networks. Works with partners andstakeholders on program sustainability.
Completes otherduties as assigned.
