Job description

Description

FEV is seeking an Engineer Assistant in the field of controls and virtual development for engine, hybrid and fuel cell powertrains. FEV offers interested students the opportunity to work in highly motivated engineering teams. Each engineering assistant is part of a team, receives project tasks and responsibilities within the team, participates in internal FEV training and experience sharing activities, is mentored and supervised by an experienced project engineer. Because of the complexity of the tasks encountered in the daily job, FEV prefers internship duration of 6 months to 1 year.ย 

Responsibilities:ย 

  • Assist with the development of controls software, control algorithms, and RP controls hardware configuration for vehicle propulsion and hybrid propulsion systems.
  • Assist with MiL, SiL, and HiL testing activities to verify and validate control strategies and system functions.
  • Assist with 1D model-based development and analysis of engine, aftertreatment, vehicle propulsion, thermal, and fuel cell systems.
  • Assist with engine dynamometer (dyno) and vehicle testing, including data collection, analysis, and reporting of results.
  • Collaborate with engineers to troubleshoot system issues and support ongoing development and validation activities.
  • Document test results, engineering findings, and project progress for internal review.


Requirements

  • Candidates pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical/Electronics, Mechatronics Engineering or related field
  • Minimum of ย 6 months of experience in MATLAB/Simulink
  • Basic understanding of internal combustion engines, electric motors, batteries and fuel cells
  • Basic understanding of automotive control systems
  • Ability to understand electrical schematics and drawings

Preferred Qualifications:ย 

  • Working knowledge of at least one 1D analysis tool (GT-SUITE, Amesim or similar)
  • 1D modeling experience of engine combustion system, engine air system, aftertreatment system, batteries, electric motors, fuel cell systems, propulsion and thermal systemsย 
  • Knowledge of electronic control system, sensors and actuators in the electrified powertrain
  • Must be a motivated team player to perform in fast paced development environment
  • Good communicator (oral and written), organized, and mindful of time management
