Job description

Lead Engineering Construction Inspector

The Lead Engineering Inspector position involves a broad range of duties associated with project inspection, conducting field inspections, managing infrastructure improvement projects and observing the construction and progress of water and wastewater projects.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides on-site training to less experienced inspectors.
  • Manages and completes the department's infrastructure improvement projects throughout.
  • Review contract documents, contract books, and payment applications.
  • Creates change orders for improvement projects.
  • Create and review contract quantities for improvement projects.
  • Observes installation of sanitary sewer and water lines. Requires proper materials and installation procedures be followed.
  • Records inspection observation for permanent record.
  • Reviews and comments on new materials and plans.
  • Creates maps from existing as-built records.
  • Researches plans and compiles data in a presentable form for the Deputy Sanitary Engineer.
  • Investigates problems and complaints, makes recommendations to determine the best solution.
  • Actively involved in on-going safety programs and safety training.
  • Represents the LCDU at various construction meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have a High School diploma or GED. Five (5) year construction experience or equivalent is preferred. A valid Ohio Driver's license with a safe driving record and a drug screening are required. OEPA certification or related degree preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Applicants should have construction experience including conducting field inspections, managing infrastructure improvement projects, observing the construction and progress of water and wastewater projects, maintaining records, logs and daily progress reports, ensuring compliance with departmental rules, regulations, specifications and safety standards, reviewing drawings and prints, utilizing tools and instruments, providing on-the-job training to less experienced employees, communicating with contractors, consultants and customers, serving as a departmental representative at various meetings, and exhibiting strong skills in verbal and written communication. Applicants should exercise basic judgement and time management skills, encompass analytical thinking, and provide customer service in a professional fashion.

Job Type: Full Time

Pay: $25.53/hr. - $33.00/hr.
