Position Summary:
The Executive Director of Student Success Services position provides strategic leadership and oversight for Counseling, the Student Resource Center and Success Coaching. The role is pivotal in guiding students through their life cycle, focusing on personal counseling, success coaching, and addressing basic needs and supporting a welcoming environment for all through comprehensive programs and services. Additionally, the position involves developing data-driven strategies to enhance student access and success, monitoring at-risk students, and ensuring timely interventions that contribute to meeting institutional goals related to student success and retention.
Essential Duties include:
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for Counseling, the Student Resource Center and Success Coaching.
- Provide leadership in the development of targeted interventions based on data insights to ensure timely and effective support.
- Plan, implement, administer, coordinate, monitor and evaluate the specific programs, functions, services, and activities of Counseling, including operating policies and procedures. Facilitate an efficient and effective operation.
- Plan, develop, initiate and market effective counseling services and workshops to support students and faculty.
- Manage the Counseling's scope of clinical and educational practice, procedures for referral, consultation services.
- Develop and maintain a listing of appropriate referrals for behavior and/or psychological needs.
- Consult with the Dean of Students Office in emergency situations, provide assessment of students in crisis, and assist in the development and coordination of plans for students with psychological and behavioral issues.
- Facilitate partnerships and programs that enhance students' access to resources, with an emphasis on closing gaps on student success.
- Develop and implement policies and processes for effective triage of referrals, standards for working with students experiencing basic needs insecurity, and processes for effective referrals to campus resources and community agencies.
- Develop and maintain effective partnerships with key community organizations that provide support to individuals experiencing basic needs insecurity.
- Develop and maintain TargetX dashboards to assist with caseload management, monitor attrition risk indicators.
- Provide leadership for success coaching services that holistically address students' academic, career, and social-emotional learning needs to facilitate successful matriculation through the student lifecycle.
- Monitor at-risk students and actively provides referrals for support services, providing timely outreach to students through a variety of communication methods
- Monitor data and early alerts to ensure staff are conducting timely follow-up and interventions.
- Evaluate the delivery of interventions that addresses the non-academic support needs of students.
- Direct and participate in the development, administration, and oversight of the program budget and monitors program expenditures from multiple funding sources to ensure compliance.
- Identify and support grant applications for federal, state and local funding opportunities in partnership with the Grants office.
- Serve on the CARE / Behavior Intervention Team (BIT).
- Ensure maintenance of licensure credentialing for all appropriate staff and promote professional development.
- Responsible for data collection and analysis.
- Utilize technology, including AI-enabled tools and software where appropriate, to support the effective performance of assigned duties, enhance productivity, improve communication and information management, support decision-making, and other responsibilities, while ensuring compliance with confidentiality requirements, institutional policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.

Related Duties:
- Coordinate and/or provide crisis intervention services to meet students' emergency needs during office hours and after hours as needed.
- Serve as back-up to personal counseling for students and make community agency referrals as needed.
- Maintain records, reports and data as needed for student success audits and grant reporting.
- Maintain current knowledge of theory, practice, and ethics within the counseling profession.
Hours/Schedule:
- Work schedule will typically be day-shift hours (8am-5pm) on campus, with occasional nights or weekends as required.
This position is identified as Work from Home eligible one (1) day per week (Monday or Friday), based on determination that essential duties can 1) be performed outside of the worksite, 2) be performed without access to equipment, material, and files located on campus, 3) be performed without face to face contact with supervisor, students or staff, and 4) be performed remotely with an overall neutral effect on students, co-workers, and the organization as a whole.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Master's degree in counseling or related mental health field from a regionally accredited college or university.
- At least Seven (7) years of relevant progressive leadership and professional experience in student services or related field.
- At least three (3) years' experience in a counseling setting.
- At last five (5) years' experience leading a team in a dynamic fast-paced environment.
- Experience with technology, systems and tools used to provide and enhance services supporting students.
- Strong communication skills including- presentation, public speaking, oral and written.
- Ability to exhibit leadership, initiative, enthusiasm, teamwork and collaboration with faculty, staff and students.
- Proven excellent interpersonal skills for effective regular contact with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Extensive experience and working knowledge students from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to use workplace technology relevant to the position, including the capacity to learn and appropriately leverage emerging AI-supported tools. Ability to assess the accuracy and reliability of AI-generated content, maintain confidentiality, and apply sound judgment and ethical practices in the use of technology.

- At least three (3) years' experience in a college/university counseling setting.
- At least three (3) years of relevant progressive leadership and professional experience in higher education.
- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) OR Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) OR Licensed Psychologist (PhD or PsyD).
- Must meet all qualifications for licensure in the state of Michigan.
- Prior experience supervising mental health clinicians.
- Evidence of specific training in trauma informed care.
- Demonstrated knowledge of integrated care and ability to effectively lead an integrated model of student wellness.
- Experience with grant writing and/or grant management.
