Job description

The University of Memphis seeks to fill a K-3 Literacy Specialist for Campus School Kimball.

Campus School Kimball is the newest school in the State of Tennessee's first Innovative School District, University Schools.

The K-3 Literacy Specialist supports the implementation of high-quality, evidence-based literacy instruction aligned to the Tennessee Department of Education Academic Standards for English Language Arts. The specialist will ensure that every teacher and classroom is equipped to serve all students, and will provide coaching, intervention, professional development, and instructional support including the development of literacy specific after school tutoring and summer learning programs.

This is a 10 month faculty position at the University of Memphis with full benefits.

Bachelor's degree required, master's degree preferred; Active Tennessee teaching license as found in the TNCompass public search tool with a PK-3, K-5, or elective course offering endorsement or the ability to obtain a TDOE permit.


Minimum three (3) - five (5) years successful K-3 ELA classroom teaching experience.
 

Successful candidates will have::

Strong knowledge of the science of reading, structured literacy, and foundational skills instruction.


Experience with RTI framework and progress monitoring tools (e.g., AIMSweb, i-Ready).


Orten-Gillingham or comparable training preferred.

Instructional Leadership & Teacher Support
Provide job-embedded coaching cycles (modeling, co-teaching, observation, feedback).
Support implementation of district-adopted HQIM (e.g., Wonders, EL, etc.).
Facilitate professional learning aligned to foundational skills and reading comprehension.
Support teachers in analyzing universal screening and benchmark data.
Assist with instructional planning aligned to the Tennessee ELA Standards.
Support fidelity of Tier I core instruction.
 

Student Intervention & Support
Develop literacy specific after school tutoring and summer learning programs.
Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
Collaborate with classroom teachers and RTI teams to review student data.
Maintain intervention documentation and parent communication as needed.


Collaboration & Compliance
Support school improvement goals related to 3rd grade reading proficiency.
Assist with implementation of Tennessee literacy initiatives and legislation.
