Overview
As a Physical Therapist Assistant, you will be responsible for providing physical therapy treatment to patients of all ages under the direction and supervision of physical therapist. All procedures are carried out in accordance with established standards, policies, protocols and guidelines.
Overview of the Program
The Memorial Horizons Program provides students enrolled in Radiography, Surgical Technology, and Sonography degree programs with a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience, receive financial support, and secure a pathway to employment at Memorial Health after graduation.
Eligibility Criteria
The Horizons Program is open to external candidates and current Memorial Health colleagues in the first year of their major program of study and will graduate in May 2027. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited allied health program that aligns with Memorial's workforce needs, maintain the minimum required GPA and have completed all prerequisite coursework. Applicants must complete an employment application and an interview as part of the competitive selection process. Individuals selected for the Horizons Program must maintain satisfactory academic progress, have no active corrective actions on file, and exhibit behaviors that align with Memorial's values to remain eligible.
Benefits of Working While In School
Individuals who are selected for the Horizons Program will work at Memorial Health as a per diem colleague while attending school. This allows participants to gain valuable hands-on experience, work alongside Memorial clinicians, and prepare them for their careers at Memorial after graduation.
Financial Opportunities
Individuals selected for the Horizons Program will receive a bi-weekly stipend of $1,000.00 during the second year of their program (August 2026-May 2027). Stipends are subject to applicable taxes and deductions. As a Memorial colleague who is working per diem while attending school, you may also be eligible for up to $5250 per calendar year in Tuition Assistance. In addition, individuals selected for the Horizons Program will be eligible for sign-on incentives at the time of graduation.
Pathway to Employment After Graduation
Graduates of the Horizons Program will be placed in full-time roles designated by Memorial Health upon meeting all graduation and licensing requirements. Participants must commit to working at Memorial Health for three years after graduation.

Education:
High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience:
  • Health care experience preferred but not required.
  • Computer experience (Microsoft Office) preferred but not required.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Conscientious, responsible and capable or working with persons with physical or cognitive impairments and disabilities.
  • Universal Precautions Category.

Responsibilities
  1. Provides safe and efficient patient transport to and from the therapy services areas, including home visits with therapy staff or recreational activities with the recreational therapy staff.
  1. Assists therapists and/or assistants with the treatment of patients, demonstrating consistent judgment and initiative to maximize safety under the supervision of a licensed professional.
  2. Cleans, organizes and maintains therapy equipment and services areas.
  3. Maintains open channel of communication with therapists, peers and supervisors, demonstrating appropriate interpersonal skills and teamwork.
  4. Demonstrates appropriate customer service skills as outlined in the Memorial Health System's mission, vision and values. Maintains high level of commitment to Memorial's Behavior Standards and Great Patient Experience including AIDET and Greet and Feet.
  5. Demonstrates strong time management and organizational skills in maintaining a high level of productivity while meeting commitments and deadlines.
  6. Demonstrates a willingness and flexibility in responding to scheduling requests. Works at least 48 hours in a six month period. Per diem expectation is a minimum of 1 weekend shift per month.
  7. Assist in data collection, structuring and organization of data utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point.
  8. Performs other related work as required or requested.
