Job description

Substitute Bus Aide
REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor
TIME WORKED: As needed
QUALIFICATIONS:ย 
  • Sufficient ability to follow written instructions and schedules
  • Sufficient ability to follow directions and work well with others
PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: In the absence of a regular bus aide,ย 
  1. Ride bus to individual student stops before and after school each school day.
  2. Provide direct/indirect supervision of special education students transported by school bus.
  3. Assist bus driver and staff with safe loading and unloading of students.
  4. Assist students on and off the bus, securing harness and/or seat belts.
  5. Maintain safe environment.
  6. Supervise student activity and behavior.
  7. Communicate with teacher(s), principal, parents, and Transportation Department.
  8. Maintain close communication with the bus driver and special education teachers.
  9. Develop a cooperative working relationship with other school personnel serving students transported on the school bus.
  10. Collaborate with bus driver in students seating assignments.
  11. Attend training in-service as directed.
  12. Exhibit at all times appropriate role modeling through language, dress, hygiene, and expressing appropriate attitudes toward sex, criminal behavior, and the use of drugs.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Transportation Supervisor.
