Job description

Cornell College invites applications for a Student Engagement Coordinator. The coordinator oversees Cornellโ€™s student engagement program, which includes student organizations and New Student Orientation. This position influences student leadership development through formal and informal methods and assists with retention initiatives and coordinating special events or activities

Duties and Responsibilitiesย  ย ย 

- Serves as a central coordinator for student activities in the Division of Student Life. Collaborates with Student Life and other staff to support student programming across the College, including activities such as the Bigย Event and Homecoming.

-Serve as advisor to PAAC as the student group develops and provides a variety of entertainment options andย activities for the needs/wants of the Cornell community. Meet regularly with the executive committee, ensureย regulations are followed and execution of duties is delivered. Help students within this program to developย leadership skills and deliver programming to the student body.

-Serve as a resource for civic engagement programming such as Lunch Buddies and Angel Tree.

-Assist with providing support to student clubs and organizations, particularly related to contract negotiationsย and commitments, risk management, and equipment storage. Consult with leaders and members of anyย student organization to help improve the operations and activities of their groups so that participation fostersย educational and developmental experiences for students.

-Designs, implements, and leads New Student Orientation twice annually. Hires, trains, and assesses orientation staff members.

-Based on skill set and interest, this position may also serve in the following capacities: serve as co-advisor toย Greek Council and as liaison for all Greek organizations and advisors; serve as secondary advisor to Studentย Senate; serve as a student conduct officer.

-Signature authority for items such as routine billings, travel requests, vouchers; discretionary use of limitedย funds. Accountability to ensure the budget is annually within preset limits.

-Serves in the Leadership-on-Call rotation.

-Opportunity to live on-campus and serve as a primary on-call member.

Work Relationships

Reports directly to the Dean of Students and serves as a member of the Student Life staff.ย  Supervises studentย employees.ย  Works closely with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community leaders.ย  Occasional contact with prospective students and their parents.ย ย

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree required; at least three years of professional experience in higher education required, preferablyย in the area of student development, counseling, education, or similar field.

This position is a critical integral part of campus life andย requires active visibility and engagement in all aspects of student life. Ability to motivate and work successfullyย with others.
