About the Role

We are seeking an Accountant I to support the Office of Student Financial Assistance with financial operations, compliance, and reconciliation functions. This role is responsible for processing financial transactions related to state and federal student financial aid and loan programs, performing fund reconciliations, and conducting compliance reviews. The ideal candidate will have accounting experience in a government or regulated environment with familiarity working in state financial systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Voucher and process deposits and disbursements for state and federal student financial aid and loan programs.

  • Perform weekly and monthly fund reconciliations to ensure accuracy and compliance.

  • Audit and process invoices in accordance with established procedures.

  • Prepare, update, and maintain departmental procedures and training manuals.

  • Conduct compliance reviews of nonpublic postsecondary institutions.

  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to support financial operations and reporting.

  • Utilize Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Access) for analysis and documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Accounting or Community College Accounting Certificate.

  • Minimum 2 years of professional business office experience.

  • At least 1 year of experience auditing and processing invoices.

  • 1+ year performing fund reconciliations.

  • 1+ year conducting compliance reviews of nonpublic postsecondary institutions.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Access, etc.) with at least 1 year of hands-on experience.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional office environment.

Highly Desired Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience working for the State of Florida.

  • Familiarity with state financial systems such as FLAIR or FLPALM (minimum 6 months preferred).
