Job description

Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Data Center Cabling Technician to support structured cabling and physical layer infrastructure within a high-performance data center environment in Austin, TX. This role is heavily focused on fiber and copper installations, cable management, and ensuring clean, efficient, and scalable connectivity across the facility.


Key Responsibilities
  • Install, route, and secureย fiber optic and copper cabling(Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, SM/MM fiber)
  • Performย rack and stack supportย with an emphasis on proper cable routing and management
  • Terminate, test, and troubleshoot fiber (LC, SC, MPO/MTP) and copper connections
  • Read and interpretย cable run lists, floor plans, and network diagrams
  • Label cables and ports according to data center standards and maintain accurate documentation
  • Perform cable tracing, auditing, and cleanup to maintain organized pathways
  • Use testing equipment such asย OTDR, power meters, and cable certifiers
  • Supportย build-outs, expansions, and decommissioning projects
  • Ensure proper use of ladder racks, trays, and patch panels
  • Follow strictย TIA/EIA and BICSI standardsย for structured cabling
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, including working at heights and in confined spaces

Qualifications:

  • Experience:ย At least 1ย yearย of prior data center rack and stack experience, including knowledge of data center hardware installation, cable management, and general data center operations.
  • Technical Skills:ย Basic understanding of server hardware, networking equipment, and how they integrate within a data center environment.
  • Physical Requirements:ย Ability to lift and carry equipment (up to 50 lbs), bend, kneel, and stand for extended periods of time. Comfortable working in tight spaces.
  • Attention to Detail:ย Strong attention to detail to ensure proper installation, cable management, and system configuration.
  • Problem-Solving Skills:ย Ability to troubleshoot basic hardware issues and report any problems or discrepancies to senior technicians.
