Job description

Current job opportunities are posted here as they become available.

DSI Tech is expanding its infrastructure services capabilities and is building a dedicated Structured Cabling practice. We are looking for an experienced Structured Cabling Solutions Architect who can lead the technical design of cabling solutions from the initial customer conversation and on-site survey through solution design, Bill of Materials, Statement of Work, proposal support, and transition to the implementation team.

This is a customer-facing technical role for someone who understands both how structured cabling systems should be designed and how they are actually installed in the field.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable walking a customer site, understanding the existing infrastructure, discussing technical and business requirements with the customer, developing the appropriate solution, producing an accurate BOM, and supporting the DISYS sales and delivery teams through project award and implementation.

Please note: This is a full-time, in-office corporate position located in Ashburn, Virginia. Only local candidates will be considered.

What You Will Do
  • Participate in customer discovery meetings with Outside Sales and technical teams to understand business, network, infrastructure, capacity and facility requirements.
  • Conduct on-site surveys of customer facilities, offices, campuses, warehouses, data centers, and other environments.
  • Assess MDFs, IDFs, telecommunications rooms, pathways, cable trays, conduit, racks, cabinets, grounding, power availability, existing copper and fiber infrastructure and other physical infrastructure conditions.
  • Design structured cabling solutions using copper, including Cat6 and Cat6A, single-mode and multimode fiber, backbone cabling, and associated connectivity components.
  • Determine cable routes, pathway requirements, rack elevations, telecommunications room requirements, fiber counts, copper drops, patching requirements and equipment placement.
  • Develop accurate Bills of Materials including cable, fiber, racks, cabinets, patch panels, fiber enclosures, connectors, jacks, faceplates, cable management, pathway components, grounding components and other materials required for implementation.
  • Develop cable counts, material quantities, labor assumptions and technical inputs required to support project estimating and pricing.
  • Prepare technical Statements of Work that clearly define scope, assumptions, responsibilities, deliverables, exclusions, testing requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Develop and review drawings, floor plans, cable schedules, rack elevations, pathway diagrams and other technical documentation using AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Visio or similar tools.
  • Review customer drawings, RFPs, specifications, and construction documents to identify technical requirements, risks, assumptions, and questions requiring clarification.
  • Develop RFIs and participate in customer technical discussions and scope clarification meetings.
  • Work closely with sales and estimating teams to develop technically compliant and commercially competitive cabling solutions.
  • Present proposed designs to customers and explain technical recommendations, alternatives, assumptions, and trade-offs.
  • Perform technical reviews before submitting proposals to confirm the proposed BOM and scope accurately reflect the solution being offered.
  • Conduct implementation handoffs with Project Managers and field teams after contract award to ensure the delivery team understands the design, assumptions, and customer expectations.
  • Provide technical support during installation when field conditions require design clarification or modification.
  • Review installation documentation, test results, redlines, and as-built documentation as required.
  • Help DSI Tech establish repeatable engineering standards, site survey templates, BOM templates, estimating standards, preferred product configurations, and quality control processes for the Structured Cabling practice.
Technical Experience
  • 7 or more years of experience designing and supporting structured cabling and telecommunications infrastructure projects.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of Cat6, Cat6A, single-mode fiber, multimode fiber, backbone cabling, and horizontal cabling.
  • Strong understanding of MDF and IDF design, telecommunications rooms, racks, cabinets, patching, pathways, cable trays, conduit, grounding and bonding.
  • Experience conducting onsite surveys and translating field conditions into an implementable technical design.
  • Demonstrated experience developing detailed Bills of Materials and supporting project cost estimates.
  • Experience developing Statements of Work, design packages, cable schedules, drawings and implementation documentation.
  • Experience with commercial office, enterprise, campus and data center cabling environments.
  • Knowledge of BICSI methodologies and applicable ANSI/TIA standards including TIA 568, TIA 569, TIA 606, TIA 607 and applicable data center standards.
  • Working knowledge of applicable NEC requirements and local building and fire codes related to telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Visio or comparable design and markup tools.
  • Strong understanding of cabling testing and certification requirements including copper certification and fiber testing.
  • Ability to evaluate multiple technical approaches and recommend solutions based on performance, scalability, constructability and cost.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current BICSI RCDD certification required
  • BICSI OSP or other relevant telecommunications infrastructure certifications are a plus.
  • Experience designing structured cabling for data centers and mission-critical environments is highly desirable.
  • Experience with manufacturers and ecosystems such as CommScope, Panduit, Corning, Belden, Leviton, Siemon or comparable enterprise cabling solutions is desirable.
  • Experience supporting federal government, state and local government, commercial enterprise or data center customers is a plus.
  • Experience with low voltage systems beyond structured cabling, including WiFi infrastructure, CCTV, access control, DAS or AV infrastructure, is a plus.
What Success Looks Like

Success in this position means that a DSI Tech Outside Sales can bring you into an early customer conversation and rely on you to take technical ownership of the opportunity. You can walk the site, ask the right questions, identify conditions that affect cost and implementation, develop the solution, create an accurate BOM and technical scope, defend the design with the customer, and hand the awarded project to the delivery team with minimal ambiguity.

This position will also play an important role in helping DSI Tech build and mature its Structured Cabling practice by establishing repeatable design, estimating, and quality standards that allow the business to scale.

The typical salary range for this role is:

$125,000 - $150,000 annually
