Job description

Position Summary


The Senior Field Engineer is responsible for delivering high-quality audiovisual installations and providing reliable technical support across a variety of commercial environments. This role serves as a high-level technician capable of leading job sites, guiding installers, executing hands-on installation tasks, and supporting system commissioning. The Senior Field Engineer works closely with Engineering and Technical Project Managers to maintain installation standards, meet project schedules, and uphold Lumibuild's quality expectations. In addition to new system builds, this role also supports post-integration service, diagnostics, and troubleshooting of existing AV systems to ensure clients receive fully functional and dependable technology solutions. The Senior Field Engineer also acts a mentor to other Field Engineers to strengthen their skills and technical abilities.


Key Responsibilities


Installation and Technical Execution


  • Install, terminate, label, and test AV cabling including Cat6, fiber, speaker cable, and coax.
  • Mount and integrate AV equipment such as displays, projectors, loudspeakers, cameras, microphones, racks, and control hardware.
  • Build and assemble equipment racks including mounting, cable management, cooling considerations, and signal path organization.
  • Perform soldering, crimping, and compression terminations with a high level of consistency and accuracy.
  • Interpret and execute system drawings, schematics, risers, and cable schedules.
  • Understand conduit paths, pull techniques, and the concept of conduit fill capacity.
  • Adjust, align, and focus projectors to achieve proper screen fill and image clarity.
  • Apply knowledge of audio and video signal types, routing, and signal flow in both analog and digital formats.


System Configuration and Commissioning


  • Connect to and load configuration files, presets, and programs for major AV platforms such as Crestron, Extron, Biamp, Shure, QSC, and others.
  • Configure networked audio and video systems including Dante Controller.
  • Perform device discovery and basic network configuration including IP address management and hardware identification.
  • Complete commissioning checklists, functional testing, device verification, and system documentation.
  • Conduct critical listening tests, verify audio signal levels, and assist with tuning DSP-based audio systems for VTC environments.
  • Validate video routing, display performance, camera operation, UC platform functionality, and control system behavior.


Troubleshooting and Post-Integration Support


  • Diagnose and repair issues in pre-existing or newly installed AV systems.
  • Identify failures in signal paths, terminations, network connections, and device configurations.
  • Provide clear, detailed documentation of issues, resolutions, and recommended improvements.
  • Support service calls and post-deployment adjustments as needed.
  • Assist in remote support.


Leadership and Site Coordination


  • Act as lead Field Engineer on many job sites, assisting in directing installers and coordinating daily field activities.
  • Plan tasks, prioritize work, and communicate clearly to ensure efficient use of labor and minimize downtime.
  • Interface with Project Managers, Engineers, and clients to resolve onsite challenges.
  • Maintain a professional presence and uphold Lumibuild's quality and safety expectations.
  • Mentor other Field Engineers to strengthen technical capabilities and accelerate skill development.


Safety and Jobsite Conduct


  • Follow all company safety policies, jobsite rules, and OSHA guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area free of hazards and clutter.
  • Understand fastener grading systems (SAE and ISO) and their relevance to mounting and structural tasks.
  • Recognize fire wall requirements and properly execute penetrations and patching procedures.
  • Use PPE appropriately and ensure it is available at all times.
  • Demonstrate understanding of jobsite egress requirements, emergency action plans, and scaffolding safety.


Qualifications


  • Minimum 3 years of experience in commercial AV installation or a comparable technical field.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge of audiovisual components, signal types, and structured cabling practices.
  • Proficiency in soldering, crimping, and compression terminations.
  • Ability to read AV drawings, schematics, and construction documents.
  • Familiarity with major AV manufacturers and product lines.
  • Understanding of basic networking concepts including IP addressing, MAC addresses, and common network hardware.
  • Strong computer skills and comfort with technical software tools.
  • Demonstrated consistency, accuracy, and efficiency in termination and installation methods.
  • Ability to serve as a lead technician and manage day-to-day onsite tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with structured cabling testing, toning, and verification.
  • Experience commissioning AV systems and completing documentation and checklists.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various job sites.


Preferred Skills


  • CTS certification.
  • OSHA 10 certification.
  • Basic IT networking knowledge beyond fundamentals.
  • Experience with access control, surveillance, or other low-voltage systems.
  • Completion of scissor lift or boom lift certification.
  • Familiarity with AV-over-IP concepts, multicast, and managed network environments.
