Job description

GMF Steel Group is seeking a competitive, detail-oriented erection estimator with a strong understanding of construction processes and a passion for delivering accurate, high-quality work. This role is ideal for a driven professional who wants to grow within a fast-paced steel company.
This is not a remote position. It is required to be in-person in Lakeland, FL.
Responsibilities:
  • Prepare proposals including structural steel, miscellaneous metals, detailing, installation/erection, and various other special conditions
  • Take-off of materials, shop labor, field labor, equipment requirements
  • Understand and foresee complex fabrication and erection scenarios, and adjust to account for them in bid proposal
  • Evaluate all contract documents including specifications, drawings, general conditions, and special provisions
  • Determine quantities and types of members required to complete project scope
  • Determine shop operations along with the total time for each required to complete project scope in the most efficient manner
  • Determine practical and efficient erection schemes along with the labor force and equipment required
  • Note and reference any areas of the bid documents that require additional explanation and if allowances or exclusions must be noted

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience, preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or business, preferred
  • Experience in Commercial General Contracting Estimating preferred
  • Drafting experience, preferred
  • AutoCAD experience, preferred
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office full suite, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Written and oral communication skills
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills required

Salary:
  • $90,000 - $140,000/year
  • Dependent upon experience
  • Eligibility for performance bonuses
