Job Title: Structural Steel Detailer
Position Summary:
Three Rivers Corporation is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Structural Steel Detailer to join our team in Midland, Michigan. This position plays a critical role in supporting our fabrication and field operations by producing accurate and detailed drawings for structural steel fabrication and erection projects throughout Michigan.

The Structural Steel Detailer is responsible for preparing detailed fabrication and erection drawings for steel fabricators and field erection crews. This role develops plans, drawings, models, and supporting documentation for structural steel members including columns, beams, braces, trusses, stairs, handrails, joists, metal decking, and other miscellaneous steel components.
This position works closely with engineers, estimators, project managers, architects, fabricators, and field personnel to ensure projects are detailed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with industry standards.
Job Type: Full-time; Salary (Exempt)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Produce detailed structural steel fabrication and erection drawings.
  • Develop shop drawings from engineering plans, sketches, and architectural documents.
  • Prepare and submit field drawings for review and approval.
  • Generate Requests for Information (RFIs) as needed to resolve design discrepancies or missing information.
  • Produce final shop drawings with accurate dimensions, weld requirements, connections, plates, angles, and miscellaneous steel components.
  • Create material lists, bills of materials, and part drawings for fabrication purposes.
  • Prepare anchor bolt plans and construction layout drawings.
  • Develop electronic 3D models of structural steel systems using SDS2 software.
  • Produce fabrication reports and supporting documentation for production teams.
  • Prepare erection drawings and material lists for field construction personnel.
  • Coordinate project requirements with architects, engineers, contractors, consultants, and owners.
  • Participate in design-build projects and communicate directly with clients and contractors as necessary.
  • Perform field measurements and site visits to verify dimensions and existing conditions.
  • Work with supervisors and foremen to resolve construction and fabrication issues.
  • Maintain effective communication with project teams, field staff, subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and company leadership.
  • Participate in project progress meetings, owner meetings, design meetings, and internal coordination meetings.
  • Support company safety initiatives including training, audits, and committee participation.
  • Contribute to process improvement efforts and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of three (3) years of structural steel detailing experience in a fabrication shop, detailing office, engineering firm, or related environment preferred.
  • Experience with structural steel construction and fabrication practices.
  • Proficiency with SDS2 detailing software strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of AISC and AWS standards and requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Ability to proactively identify issues and communicate solutions in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Microsoft Project or similar project management software is preferred.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced construction environment.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of construction industry experience involving structural steel detailing and coordination preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
This position is primarily based out of our Midland, Michigan office and requires consistent on-site attendance. Limited travel to construction sites throughout Michigan is required to perform field measurements, attend meetings, and support project execution.
While visiting construction sites, employees may be exposed to a variety of weather conditions and active construction environments. Appropriate personal protective equipment including hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and safety footwear is required while on site.
Site visits may involve walking on uneven terrain, climbing ladders, accessing elevated work areas, and navigating active construction zones. The office environment is generally quiet, while construction sites may involve elevated noise levels and physically demanding conditions.
Remote field assignments are not anticipated
