Job description

Job Responsibilities & Requirements: A Brief Overview

The role of Design Engineer IV plays a crucial role in sealing design of truss components and truss repairs for MiTek customers and creatively solving engineering issues our customers have. This position requires an active license in good standing with multiple state licensing boards to ensure our products are in compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. The expertise required is instrumental in delivering high quality engineering and contributing to the success of our customers. As Design Engineer IV, this role comes with the highest level of responsibility and industry specific knowledge.

This position reports to the Sr. Engineering Manager located in the office where the engineer is assigned. This role will work a hybrid schedule based out of our office in Chesterfield, MO.

Responsibilities
  • Design truss components based on specified parameters from customers and use knowledge of engineering and building codes, collaborating with other engineers to ensure designs protect the health, safety and welfare of the public.
  • Make corrections and prepare design drawings or repairs to be presented to another Professional Engineer (PE) for review and certification.
  • Review work done by MiTek Engineers In Training (EIT) for accuracy and seal their work.
  • Mentor EITs and PEs.
  • Work crossโ€‘functionally as needed to assist with complex problems involving different building materials.
  • Work with other PEs and Engineering Manager to determine engineering policies using a strong understanding of codes and standards.
  • Discuss design modifications and reviews, appropriate design methodologies with customers.
  • Assist customers in troubleshooting issues and design problems.
  • Discuss projects with Supervisor or Engineers for compliance with company policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Engineering required; Civil or Structural Engineering major preferred.
  • Masterโ€™s degree in Engineering preferred.
  • 8+ years of industry and/or related design experience required with an SE, or 10+ years of industry and/or related experience required with a PE.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer required.
  • Structural Engineering License or ability to obtain within 3 months of hiring date.
  • Ability to perform mathematical skills such as calculating proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume, and apply concepts of basic geometry.
  • Ability to read and understand prints and schematics.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Combination of experience and education that clearly indicates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position may substitute on a yearโ€‘toโ€‘year basis.
