Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Structural Engineer III to join our Ports & Marine team, supporting the planning, analysis, and design of marine and waterfront infrastructure projects within Seattle, WA, Houston, TX, or Orange, CA. This position is well suited for an early-career structural engineer with a strong academic background and hands-on experience contributing to design deliverables for complex infrastructure projects under the guidance of senior engineers and project managers.
The successful candidate will support structural engineering tasks across a range of port, marine, and coastal facilities, working within multidisciplinary teams to deliver technically sound, code-compliant solutions for public and private sector clients.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform structural analysis and design for marine and waterfront structures, including port facilities, wharves, piers, bulkheads, retaining structures, and associated infrastructure
  • Assist with the preparation of structural calculations, technical memoranda, design reports, and supporting documentation in accordance with project requirements and client standards
  • Support the development of plans, details, and specifications in coordination with senior engineers and designers
  • Apply applicable codes, standards, and guidelines to ensure designs meet regulatory, safety, and quality requirements
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including civil, geotechnical, coastal, and construction professionals, to support integrated project delivery
  • Participate in internal quality control processes and respond to review comments under the direction of senior staff
  • Support project teams through various phases of project development, from conceptual and preliminary design through final design and construction support
  • Maintain organized project files and documentation consistent with AECOM procedures and quality management systems

Technical Skills and Tools
  • Proficiency with SAP2000, MathCAD, and Microsoft Excel for structural analysis and calculations
  • Experience preparing or supporting design documentation using AutoCAD or Revit (either is acceptable)
  • Familiarity with producing clear, well-documented engineering calculations and reports

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
  • BA/BS + Four (4) years of professional structural engineering experience or equivalent (with emphasis on structural engineering)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering
  • Exposure to infrastructure, transportation, marine, or waterfront projects
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-based engineering environment
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and technical accuracy
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and internal coordination
