Job description

The Katherine Thomas School, located in Rockville, MD, is a special education school that serves students with language, learning, and sensory motor disabilities and moderate to high functioning autism. KTS has an opening for a long term substitute teacher in a STRIDE middle school classroom. STRIDE is an 11-month School program for students who exhibit significant challenges with engagement, attention, regulation, group process and social interactions that require more intensive support to succeed academically and socially. Small classes with team support. Working Hours: 8:30-4:15. This position would run from June to October. EOE

Rate is $30 per hour

Responsibilities of the STRIDE Teacher include:

  • Develop instruction following the MD State Curriculum providing necessary accommodation to meet individual, group, and program needs
  • Be an expert at modifying grade level curriculum for all students
  • Write and implement IEPs
  • Create a supportive learning environment
  • Create partnerships with parents and the KTS school community
  • Supervise TAs
  • Work collaboratively with team members
  • Utilize technology and/or AAC devices to assist students in accessing curriculum and communication

Required experience and education for the STRIDE Teacher:

  • MUST have a Bachelors Degree in Special Education
  • Maryland Special Education Teaching Certificate
  • Experience with students on the Autism spectrum preferred
