Job description

Jefferson Parish Civil Service is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Purpose of Announcement EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT ELIGIBLE LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKWAYS AND FUTURE VACANCIES AS THEY OCCUR. Kind of Work The purpose of this position is to safely and efficiently operate the Street Sweeper, and to perform minor maintenance and servicing of the assigned equipment in accordance to existing safety programs, work standards, and procedures.

Besides operating the Street Sweeper, the operator will be required to inspect and maintain the equipment's tire inflation; oil levels; leaks (oil, fuel, water, etc.); coolant in radiator; lights and signal devices; clear and clean windows, lamp lenses, mirrors; and functioning windshield wipers. Operator may perform laboring work with or without hand tools when not operating equipment. May also be required to operate all equipment assigned to lower level Equipment Operators, as well as all equipment assigned to the level of Equipment Operator III, as assigned by the department

This position is an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or their designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Depending on the assigned vehicles, Equipment Operator III may be required to possess a valid Louisiana Class A Commercial Driver's License in order to perform the tasks associated with the position. Performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination Current employment and permanent civil service status with Jefferson Parish in a position requiring a current Louisiana Class B (or higher) Commercial Driver's License (CDL)* and satisfactory employment in that capacity, per most recent performance evaluation. OR Possession of a current Louisiana Class B (or higher) CDL* and an acceptable driving record; PLUS, meets one (1) of the following: 1. Verifiable, satisfactory experience operating a Street Sweeper.

2. Completion of approved training course in operating a Street Sweeper. 3.

Certification by an appointing authority that applicant has been adequately trained to operate a Street Sweeper. *NOTE: A valid Class B (or higher) CDL from a state other than Louisiana is acceptable for application; however, once an employment offer is extended, an applicant has ten (10) days to obtain the required Louisiana CDL. Failure to obtain a Louisiana license will disqualify an applicant for permanent employment in this position.

Copies of licenses and certificates awarded for completion of training should be submitted with application.
