What is a stream?

Stream jobs refer to positions that involve the management, analysis, or delivery of streaming data or content, such as video, audio, or real-time information. This can include roles in live video broadcasting, content moderation, data engineering, or software development for streaming platforms. People working in stream jobs may be responsible for ensuring smooth data flow, maintaining high-quality user experience, or developing tools to process and distribute content efficiently. These positions are common in industries like entertainment, gaming, social media, and big data analytics.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a stream engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Stream Engineer, you need a solid background in computer science, real-time data processing, and experience with distributed systems, typically supported by a relevant degree. Proficiency with tools such as Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, or similar streaming platforms, along with knowledge of programming languages like Java or Scala, is essential. Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills set outstanding candidates apart in this fast-evolving field. These skills and qualities ensure efficient, reliable real-time data processing and the ability to adapt to rapidly changing technical requirements.

Professionals in streaming media roles often encounter challenges such as managing high-traffic live events, ensuring content delivery to diverse devices, and troubleshooting latency or buffering issues. Staying current with rapidly evolving streaming technologies and industry standards is also essential. Collaboration with cross-functional teams—such as developers, content creators, and network engineers—is key to resolving technical problems efficiently. LiveNOW from FOX expands the FTS portfolio even further as the only national streaming services to be truly live 24/7, covering breaking news and events as they happen.JOB DESCRIPTION

This is a rare opportunity to join one of Florida's top TV stations. WTVT-FOX 13 in Tampa is looking to hire a three day a week reporter and weekend streaming host. We are the dominant station in the market and continue to evolve the way we serve our viewers. Besides our traditional newscasts, we are a streaming first news organization. As a reporteryou will innovate, write, and deliver compelling content across every platform, from the linear newscast to a breaking news live stream. On the weekend, you'll produce and host our expanding streaming news.

We want a journalist who has evolved beyond linear television thinking and workflows. The content you create will be designed for all our news platforms. It's not always about turning a news package, it's about connecting with our viewers to tell stories for all platforms. As a streaming host, we want someone who can go beyond the script and fuel meaningful conversations, connect with audiences, and bring curiosity, insight, and personality to every story.

Job Snapshot:

  • On-Air Presence: Present stories live in-studio and from remote locations when reporting, taking full ownership of the final content and delivery.
  • Linear & Streaming Expert: Produce and present extended, unscripted live content from the field for our newscasts and live stream.
  • Digital & Social First: Write sharp, effective text copy for our digital sites and maintain an active social media presence.

A minimum of 3 years of experience as a reporter and anchor is preferred. A reel that demonstrates your ability to shoot, edit and produce content will get you noticed. This is not an entry-level position or a position for candidates who do not have a news gathering background.
