Director, Strategy & Operations

Tempus

Full-time

Job description

Passionate about precision medicine and advancing the healthcare industry?
Recent advancements in underlying technology have finally made it possible for AI to impact clinical care in a meaningful way. Tempus' proprietary platform connects an entire ecosystem of real-world evidence to deliver real-time, actionable insights to physicians, providing critical information about the right treatments for the right patients, at the right time.
Tempus's Data & AI Partnerships business is scaling fast, and how we sell needs to scale with it. This role is the connective tissue that turns commercial strategy into repeatable practice: part strategist, part operator, part quarterback. You will sit at the center of the commercial org, building the enablement, tools, and operating rhythms that let a growing sales team win consistently.
It is a high-ownership, high-visibility role for someone who can move from executive leadership strategy to the details of a launch plan or a rep's deal prep, driving outcomes across teams without needing formal direct authority.
What you'll own
1. Quarterback new offering launches
Drive go-to-market strategy for new data and software offerings end-to-end: establish launch frameworks, commercial rhythms, and orchestrate Sales, Marketing, Product, and Data into one aligned motion to ensure seamless market execution.
2. Sales training & enablement
Build a comprehensive training curriculum and enablement function from the ground up: onboarding, ongoing skill-building, deal playbooks, and persona-based positioning to drive field effectiveness.
3. Build a scalable commercial engine
Design the operating backbone that lets the commercial team grow without losing rigor: the tools, AI-powered dashboards, and practices that turn individual talent into a repeatable system. Define the metrics, cadences, and infrastructure that make performance visible and coachable.
4. Lead the GTM transformation to a use-case / persona-led motion
Re-architect field execution by tailoring messaging, content, and discovery frameworks to specific buyer personas (for example, Medical Affairs versus Clinical Development). Partner with senior commercial, data, and operations leaders to bring this segmented approach to life in the field.
5. Elevate the selling motion: solutions, not SKUs
Sharpen how the team engages customers: clarifying the key "asset battles," grounding conversations in real customer problems and how Tempus uniquely solves them, and coaching the team to architect client solutions rather than pitch products.
6. Accelerate deal velocity and remove friction
Diagnose systemic deal bottlenecks across the sales cycle and institute operational fixes to streamline approvals, clear commercial barriers, and shorten time-to-close.
What Success Looks Like (First 6 to 12 Months)
  • A functioning enablement engine (curriculum, playbooks, and tooling) that measurably shortens rep onboarding ramp and lifts field effectiveness.
  • Measurable improvement in sales velocity across priority buyer personas, including reduced proposal-to-close timelines.
  • At least one new strategic offering launched successfully end-to-end on a clear, repeatable GTM playbook.
  • Field adoption of AI-driven commercial tools and dashboards integrated into standard weekly operating cadences.

Base Qualifications
  • 8+ years in commercial strategy, sales operations, enablement, revenue operations, or chief-of-staff roles.
  • A track record of building repeatable commercial systems (enablement, GTM launches, sales ops infrastructure), not just running one-off projects.
  • Strong cross-functional orchestration; comfortable aligning marketing, pricing, sales, and data without formal authority over them.
  • Fluency moving between strategy and execution, and between executive leadership and the field.
  • Analytical rigor and comfort with commercial tooling, dashboards, and sales pipeline analytics.
  • A structured, self-directed operator who brings order to ambiguity and drives outcomes across teams.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in life sciences, healthcare, health tech, or data-focused SaaS.
  • Direct experience applying AI tools or automated workflows to sales and commercial operations.
  • Familiarity with the use of real-world data (RWD) in life sciences or clinical research settings.
