Job description

Basic Function
HF Sinclair is seeking a Strategic Business Planner in Dallas, TX. In this role, you will conduct asset analysis, prepare metrics and reporting assignments for assigned department with limited to minimal supervision.
Job Duties
  • Understand competitive advantages and disadvantages of Company assets; use this knowledge to identify competitive gaps and opportunities and help set strategic direction.
  • Originate, screen, develop and/or lead value creation opportunities consistent with strategic direction by performing economic and business analysis consistent with overall business strategies
  • Coordinate between point of view and asset strategy to set priorities, actively participate in commercial strategic studies and drive overall timeline for strategic conclusions
  • Develop and support market and commercial strategies to improve netbacks and overall competitive position in coordination with the commercial teams
  • Help develop dashboards with high quality data leading to analysis of competitive metrics for company assets
  • Leverage knowledge and experience to provide recommendations on projects and initiatives
  • Integrate and work with the refinery and commercial teams to assist in determining the projects and initiatives that economically improve the competitive position of our businesses
  • Lead cross functional teams to drive large commercial initiatives and drive to actionable plans
  • Build financial models and perform economic analysis with clear understanding of key drivers and sensitivities for capital projects and being able to clearly articulate those to management
  • Assist with stewarding project process and capital committee preparation
  • Participate in regional developments and strategies (e.g. LCFS/Cap and Trade, fuels specification changes, pipeline commitments and tariffs)
  • Regularly interface with leadership in commercial, operations, capital projects and corporate finance

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion
Experience
A minimum of 5 years of experience in refining is required. Full understanding of refinery asset configuration and experience leading a successful project is required.
Education Level
A minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Engineering or related field is required.
Required Skills
Ability to determine and develop multiple approaches to increasing plan profitability and quantitatively evaluating each approach as well as the ability to apply risk/reward factors. Ability to stay abreast of new technology developments and processes is essential. Proficient with Microsoft products and experience with engineering software is required. LP, simulation, or modeling software demonstrated experience required. Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to communicate effectively with others. Familiarity with standards and practices of the specific discipline. Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations and modeling. Economic thinker that has the ability to build trust within the organization and capable of influencing others. Advanced Critical and Entrepreneurial Thinking with the ability to professionally and tactfully challenge thinking when needed. Ability to make independent decisions within broad guidelines and policies.

None.
Work Conditions
Office and plant based with up to 25% travel required. Subject to varying weather conditions and required to work in all temperatures, including outdoors.
