The Membership and Programs Strategy Manager serves as PICPA's lead expert on member needs, engagement, and the evolving CPA profession. This role combines member insight, relationship management, and strategic leadership to inform organizational priorities, drive member value, and shape future membership strategies. By leveraging relationships, data, and market trends, the Manager translates insights into actionable recommendations, impactful programs, and sustainable growth initiatives.
The Manager leads complex, cross-functional projects and initiatives that strengthen member engagement, support organizational objectives, and ensure PICPA remains responsive to the changing needs of the profession.
With a deep understanding of the CPA profession and member experience, the Manager cultivates strong relationships with members, firm leaders, employers, and volunteers. They maintain a forward-looking perspective on emerging trends, translating industry insights into innovative programs, services, and engagement strategies that advance PICPA's mission and long-term success.
Responsibilities
  • Membership Expertise, Growth & Engagement
  • Serve as PICPA's internal expert on member needs, behaviors, and emerging trends by leveraging relationships, feedback, engagement data, and HubSpot insights.
  • Develop and execute membership strategies for key audiences, including individual members, firms, and employers, to support recruitment, retention, engagement, and revenue growth.
  • Evaluate membership performance through qualitative and quantitative data, providing recommendations to enhance member value, scalability, and organizational impact.
  • Lead growth initiatives targeting non-member CPAs and under-engaged segments, translating research and insights into actionable strategies and programs.
  • Apply member insights to inform organizational priorities, program development, budgeting, resource allocation, and strategic planning.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with members, firm liaisons, and firm leadership to strengthen engagement and identify emerging opportunities.

Oversee Programs, Committees and Affinity Groups
  • Oversee member committees and affinity groups to emphasize industry-focused discussion, peer learning, and meaningful member engagement.
  • Evaluate and refine group structures and processes to improve consistency, effectiveness, and member value.
  • Ensure volunteer engagement models align with member needs and PICPA's strategic priorities while remaining scalable and sustainable.
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of targeted programs and initiatives supporting member engagement and professional growth.
  • Ensure program and content decisions are informed by documented member insights rather than anecdotal feedback alone.
  • Partner with internal teams to align content strategy with member needs, market trends, and long-term organizational goals.

Sponsorships & Member Benefit Management
  • Oversee the strategy and lifecycle of member benefit partnerships and sponsorships ensuring alignment with member needs and PICPA priorities.
  • Evaluate, implement, and measure exclusive member offerings in collaboration with internal teams.
  • Serve as key contact for top level sponsors and oversee team working with all other sponsors and partners.

Leadership, Project Management & Operational Excellence
  • Lead, coach, and develop direct report(s), fostering accountability, growth, and operational efficiency.
  • Applies critical thinking, sound judgment, and professional experience to develop strategies, improve operations, and achieve organizational goals while operating with a high degree of independence.
  • Direct complex, cross-functional projects from concept through execution, leading with a clear strategic point of view.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, timelines, budgets, and performance metrics to ensure successful delivery and continuous improvement.

Data Analysis, Insight Translation & Decision Support
  • Collaborate with data and technology teams to design, interpret, and apply PowerBI, Aptify, and HubSpot reporting related to engagement, retention, and participation.
  • Translate data and qualitative insights into clear narratives, recommendations, and strategic options for leadership.
  • Monitor trends in membership, engagement, and volunteer participation to proactively identify risks and opportunities.

Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in business, communications, learning, organizational development or a related field
  • CPA prefered.

Required Skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to manage volunteer members and subject matter experts, as well as internal constituents
  • Exceptional organizational skills to manage workflow and content calendar
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Understanding of accounting firms, experience working at these firms is preferred.
  • Understanding of CPA landscape, including CPE and general accounting topics and trends
