Job Summary

The Director of Strategy & Planning serves as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to the Chief Marketing Officer and Enterprise Marketing and Communications (EMC) leadership team. Helping shape, operationalize, and monitor EMC's long-term strategic direction. This role leads the annual and ongoing business planning process, ensuring alignment between enterprise priorities and organizational objectives.  Working closely with the EMC Leadership Team, the position drives strategy formulation, establishes clear outcomes and success measures, and creates transparency into progress against strategic goals. In addition, the role coordinates priorities, facilitates cross-functional alignment, prepares executive-level communications and governance materials, and ensures high-priority initiatives are effectively advanced across the organization. Success is measured by the role's impact on strategic decision-making, organizational alignment, and achievement of EMC's desired business outcomes. 

Primary duties include but are not limited to:

  • Develops the strategy for EMC's overall annual and Multi Year Plan (MYP) strategy, including people and organizational growth, marketing-related business and enterprise priorities - driving EMC's impact in the enterprise.  

  •  Serves as the Strategy Liaison to Enterprise Strategy team  

  •  Aligns EMC business strategy to Line of Business & Enterprise Strategy, ensuring KPIs are defined and achieved.  

  •  As the owner of market research for the division, this leader establishes EMC's success metrics, including brand impact measurement, growth, retention, etc., maintaining an external focus on industry and market trends, competitive intelligence and innovation.

  • Provides insights and direction through analysis of customer data, informing Distribution marketing tactics and delivery performance for optimization.  

  •  Partners with CMO and EMC leadership on special projects designed to advance innovation, performance, function and enterprise outcomes.  

  •  Works in concert with EMC functional leaders to develop and refine KPIs, reporting and dissemination of insights and information to enable improved performance.  

  •  Engages in people-driven programming to foster a collaborative and engaged culture, in partnership with CMO, EMC Leadership and our Human Resources team.  

  •  Delivers insights and competitive intelligence to marketing function and partners with enterprise strategy for activation and understanding.  

Required Education and/or Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, organizational effectiveness, data analytics, consulting, finance or business management.  

Recommended Education and/or Certifications

  • 8+ years of experience in strategy development and execution. 
  • Business acumen in the life insurance or group benefits product space a plus.

This selected candidate will be expected to work hybrid in Indianapolis, IN. The candidate will also be expected to physically return to the office in CA, IN or ME as business needs dictate or for team building and collaboration.
