Job description

The Grounds Laborer is responsible for maintaining the appearance, safety, and cleanliness of city-owned properties, including parks, medians, facilities, and public spaces. This position performs a variety of manual labor tasks related to landscaping, grounds maintenance, and general upkeep.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mow, edge, and trim grass in parks, rights-of-way, and other municipal areas
  • Plant, water, prune, and maintain trees, shrubs, and flower beds
  • Remove litter, debris, and illegal dumping from city properties
  • Operate and maintain hand tools and power equipment (e.g., mowers, trimmers, blowers)
  • Assist with irrigation system maintenance and minor repairs
  • Load, unload, and transport materials, tools, and equipment
  • Perform seasonal duties such as leaf removal and storm cleanup
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of city events or public activities
  • Report hazards, vandalism, or maintenance issues to supervisors
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
