Job description

Job Title: MILCON Superintendent
Job Description

The MILCON Superintendent leads all daily field operations for complex military construction projects, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient execution in accordance with USACE, NAVFAC, and UFC/UFGS requirements. This role oversees trade partners and field staff, manages site logistics and sequencing, and coordinates closely with base personnel and government representatives. The Superintendent plays a key role in integrating innovative construction technologies, including 3D printing and robotics, while maintaining rigorous quality, safety, and documentation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Direct all daily jobsite operations, including oversight of subcontractors, field staff, equipment, deliveries, and construction sequencing.
  • Oversee assigned trade partners to ensure compliance with safety requirements, site sequencing, and workmanship standards.
  • Implement and maintain the site logistics plan developed by the Senior Construction Manager, including access control, staging areas, material flow, and phasing.
  • Conduct daily field walks to verify progress, resolve issues, and ensure work aligns with approved drawings, submittals, specifications, and UFC/UFGS requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed 2-week lookahead schedules and coordinate updates with the Senior Construction Manager for integration into the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS).
  • Coordinate with base personnel and government representatives on inspections, escorts, access requirements, and field activities.
  • Enforce the Site-Specific Safety & Health Plan (SSHP) in accordance with EM 385-1-1, including conducting daily safety briefings, inspections, and toolbox talks.
  • Enforce security compliance on site, including restricted-area access control and verification of personnel credentials.
  • Address safety deficiencies immediately, document corrective actions, and ensure timely resolution.
  • Support the Quality Control Manager (QCM) in implementing the USACE/NAVFAC Three-Phase Quality Control Process (Preparatory, Initial, Follow-Up).
  • Verify that installed work meets UFC/UFGS criteria, contract documents, and approved submittals, and take corrective action when necessary.
  • Track and document inspections, testing, material verification, and punch-list items to meet USACE/NAVFAC documentation standards.
  • Maintain accurate red-line as-built drawings and coordinate updates with the Project Engineer.
  • Track daily progress, manpower, quantities, constraints, and delays, and maintain accurate daily logs, photos, and reports in line with USACE/NAVFAC requirements.
  • Validate subcontractor progress quantities for billing purposes and support the Senior Construction Manager with cost-to-complete updates.
  • Identify field issues that may impact schedule, cost, or quality and escalate them with recommended solutions.
  • Maintain Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) compliance for all field documentation and ensure secure handling of project information.
  • Lead pre-task planning, daily coordination meetings, and subcontractor performance reviews to align all parties on safety, quality, and schedule objectives.
  • Ensure proper integration of all scopes of work and coordinate with the Project Engineer on RFIs and design clarifications.
  • Support PrintOps functions by coordinating printer mobilization, staging, and site readiness, and manage installation of printed wall systems with conventional construction scopes.
  • Ensure 3D-printed components integrate properly with MEP systems, framing, and finish systems.
  • Assist with acceptance testing, mock-ups, and commissioning activities required by USACE/NAVFAC for new technologies and systems.
  • Collaborate with project leadership to continuously improve field processes, leverage innovative construction methods, and support mission-driven project goals.
Essential Skills
  • 5+ years of Superintendent or field leadership experience on Department of Defense (DoD), USACE, NAVFAC, or large commercial construction projects.
  • Proven vertical construction experience, including ground-up commercial or military facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of field sequencing, site logistics, and construction means and methods.
  • Experience working on MILCON projects or similar complex, secure construction environments.
  • Familiarity with UFC and UFGS requirements and their application in field execution.

  • Understanding of AT/FP standards and base-access procedures for secure installations.
  • Experience using Procore or similar construction management platforms for field documentation.
  • Experience with P6 or similar scheduling tools for maintaining and updating lookahead schedules.
  • Proficiency with typical field documentation tools, including daily logs, photo documentation, and inspection records.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with government inspectors, installation personnel, and project stakeholders.
  • Eligibility to obtain a Secret security clearance.
  • Willingness to work at remote or secure project sites and to travel for extended periods as project needs require.

  • USACE/NAVFAC Construction Quality Management for Contractors (CQM-C) certification (preferred).
  • OSHA-30 or EM 385-1-1 safety certification (preferred).
  • Experience with innovative construction systems, including 3D printing, robotics, or advanced building technologies.
  • Prior military service or experience working on secure federal installations.
  • Experience on commercial construction and ground-up projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to support commissioning, mock-ups, and acceptance testing for new technologies.
  • Interest in mission-driven work focused on addressing global challenges such as the housing crisis.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and processes in a high-growth construction environment.
Work Environment

This role is based on an active military installation and involves working in a secure, highly regulated environment. Projects operate on a 24/7 schedule, and team members work flexible hours, including nights and weekends as well as daytime shifts, to support continuous operations. Typical workweeks average around 50 hours and do not follow a traditional 9-to-5 schedule. The environment involves coordination around base-access procedures, security protocols, and collaboration with government personnel. Field operations integrate advanced technologies such as 3D printing, robotics, and AI-driven systems alongside conventional construction methods. Team members may work at remote or secure sites and should be prepared for extended travel as needed.
