Job Title: MILCON SuperintendentJob DescriptionThe MILCON Superintendent leads all daily field operations for complex military construction projects, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient execution in accordance with USACE, NAVFAC, and UFC/UFGS requirements. This role oversees trade partners and field staff, manages site logistics and sequencing, and coordinates closely with base personnel and government representatives. The Superintendent plays a key role in integrating innovative construction technologies, including 3D printing and robotics, while maintaining rigorous quality, safety, and documentation standards.
Responsibilities
- Direct all daily jobsite operations, including oversight of subcontractors, field staff, equipment, deliveries, and construction sequencing.
- Oversee assigned trade partners to ensure compliance with safety requirements, site sequencing, and workmanship standards.
- Implement and maintain the site logistics plan developed by the Senior Construction Manager, including access control, staging areas, material flow, and phasing.
- Conduct daily field walks to verify progress, resolve issues, and ensure work aligns with approved drawings, submittals, specifications, and UFC/UFGS requirements.
- Prepare and maintain detailed 2-week lookahead schedules and coordinate updates with the Senior Construction Manager for integration into the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS).
- Coordinate with base personnel and government representatives on inspections, escorts, access requirements, and field activities.
- Enforce the Site-Specific Safety & Health Plan (SSHP) in accordance with EM 385-1-1, including conducting daily safety briefings, inspections, and toolbox talks.
- Enforce security compliance on site, including restricted-area access control and verification of personnel credentials.
- Address safety deficiencies immediately, document corrective actions, and ensure timely resolution.
- Support the Quality Control Manager (QCM) in implementing the USACE/NAVFAC Three-Phase Quality Control Process (Preparatory, Initial, Follow-Up).
- Verify that installed work meets UFC/UFGS criteria, contract documents, and approved submittals, and take corrective action when necessary.
- Track and document inspections, testing, material verification, and punch-list items to meet USACE/NAVFAC documentation standards.
- Maintain accurate red-line as-built drawings and coordinate updates with the Project Engineer.
- Track daily progress, manpower, quantities, constraints, and delays, and maintain accurate daily logs, photos, and reports in line with USACE/NAVFAC requirements.
- Validate subcontractor progress quantities for billing purposes and support the Senior Construction Manager with cost-to-complete updates.
- Identify field issues that may impact schedule, cost, or quality and escalate them with recommended solutions.
- Maintain Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) compliance for all field documentation and ensure secure handling of project information.
- Lead pre-task planning, daily coordination meetings, and subcontractor performance reviews to align all parties on safety, quality, and schedule objectives.
- Ensure proper integration of all scopes of work and coordinate with the Project Engineer on RFIs and design clarifications.
- Support PrintOps functions by coordinating printer mobilization, staging, and site readiness, and manage installation of printed wall systems with conventional construction scopes.
- Ensure 3D-printed components integrate properly with MEP systems, framing, and finish systems.
- Assist with acceptance testing, mock-ups, and commissioning activities required by USACE/NAVFAC for new technologies and systems.
- Collaborate with project leadership to continuously improve field processes, leverage innovative construction methods, and support mission-driven project goals.
Essential Skills- 5+ years of Superintendent or field leadership experience on Department of Defense (DoD), USACE, NAVFAC, or large commercial construction projects.
- Proven vertical construction experience, including ground-up commercial or military facilities.
- Strong knowledge of field sequencing, site logistics, and construction means and methods.
- Experience working on MILCON projects or similar complex, secure construction environments.
- Familiarity with UFC and UFGS requirements and their application in field execution.
- Familiarity with EM 385-1-1 safety standards and implementation on active jobsites.
- Familiarity with USACE and NAVFAC quality control programs and procedures.
- Familiarity with FAR and DFARS basics relevant to field execution and contract compliance.
- Understanding of AT/FP standards and base-access procedures for secure installations.
- Experience using Procore or similar construction management platforms for field documentation.
- Experience with P6 or similar scheduling tools for maintaining and updating lookahead schedules.
- Proficiency with typical field documentation tools, including daily logs, photo documentation, and inspection records.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with government inspectors, installation personnel, and project stakeholders.
- Eligibility to obtain a Secret security clearance.
- Willingness to work at remote or secure project sites and to travel for extended periods as project needs require.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- USACE/NAVFAC Construction Quality Management for Contractors (CQM-C) certification (preferred).
- OSHA-30 or EM 385-1-1 safety certification (preferred).
- Experience with innovative construction systems, including 3D printing, robotics, or advanced building technologies.
- Prior military service or experience working on secure federal installations.
- Experience on commercial construction and ground-up projects.
- Demonstrated ability to support commissioning, mock-ups, and acceptance testing for new technologies.
- Interest in mission-driven work focused on addressing global challenges such as the housing crisis.
- Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and processes in a high-growth construction environment.
Work EnvironmentThis role is based on an active military installation and involves working in a secure, highly regulated environment. Projects operate on a 24/7 schedule, and team members work flexible hours, including nights and weekends as well as daytime shifts, to support continuous operations. Typical workweeks average around 50 hours and do not follow a traditional 9-to-5 schedule. The environment involves coordination around base-access procedures, security protocols, and collaboration with government personnel. Field operations integrate advanced technologies such as 3D printing, robotics, and AI-driven systems alongside conventional construction methods. Team members may work at remote or secure sites and should be prepared for extended travel as needed. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $50.00 - $63.00/hr.
