Job description

Open Position: Senior Technical Project Manager

Location: Onsite – Las Vegas, NV (LVA Project); Chandler, AZ corporate office travel as required

Job Type: Full-time

Summary: As a Senior Technical Project Manager at Kovach Enclosure Systems, you are the technical authority for the building enclosure on your projects. This role leads code compliance, specification conformance, and performance testing across Division 7 (Thermal and Moisture Protection) and Division 8 (Openings) scopes — including AAMA field and laboratory testing for fenestration and enclosure systems. The Senior Technical Project Manager assumes “Ownership” and “Visibility” of the technical health of the project: anticipating code and testing requirements, resolving performance issues after they become field problems, and serving as the trusted technical resource for the project team, the general contractor, architects, and building envelope consultants.

Kovach’s Mission and Values:

At Kovach, we believe in sharing our success with the people who make it possible. Our employees are the driving force behind everything we achieve, which is why we proudly offer an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). This program allows you to become an owner of the company, giving you a direct stake in its growth and prosperity. As the company continues to succeed, so does the value of your shares, offering you a powerful opportunity to build wealth and benefit from our long-term success. With an ESOP, your contributions directly impact both your future and the company’s future, creating a true partnership in our continued growth.

Our Mission: Kovach’s mission is crystal clear: to cultivate a thriving and profitable company that stands as a beacon of growth and opportunity. We are steadfastly dedicated to fostering an environment where individuals not only succeed but flourish. In doing so, we aim to strike a harmonious balance between robust financial health and a nurturing space for all our team members.

Our Core Values:

Positivity: Easy to work with, trusting, team player, and good communicator.

Own it: Reliable, responsible, follows through, trustworthy, thorough.

Expertise: Intelligent, innovative, and coachable.

Grit: Tough, strong work ethic, and finds a way to get it done.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Code Compliance Leadership: Serve as the subject matter expert on applicable building codes and standards governing Division 7 & 8 systems (e.g., IBC, IECC, and referenced standards). Review project documents, shop drawings, and submittals for code and specification conformance, and advise the project team on compliance paths and required documentation.

AAMA and Performance Testing: Plan, coordinate, and oversee AAMA testing programs for fenestration and enclosure systems, including field water penetration testing (e.g., AAMA 501.2, ASTM E1105) and related air, water, and structural performance verification. Coordinate with testing agencies, envelope consultants, and the GC; witness tests, interpret results, and manage remediation and retesting when required.

Division 7 & 8 Technical Oversight: Provide technical direction across metal panel, roofing, waterproofing, air barrier, glazing, curtain wall, storefront, and related enclosure scopes. Evaluate system compatibility, transitions, and detailing at interfaces between trades.

Submittals and Engineering Coordination: Direct the preparation and review of technical submittals, product data, test reports, and engineering calculations. Manage substitution requests, delegated design requirements, and product testing submissions consistent with project scope and specifications.

Quality Assurance: Develop and enforce QA/QC protocols for enclosure installation, including mockup planning, pre-installation conferences, inspection hold points, and punch resolution. Drive a consistent, preemptive approach to identify and address performance risks after installation.

Consultant and Stakeholder Liaison: Act as Kovach’s primary technical liaison with the General Contractor, Architect, Engineer of Record, building envelope consultants, and testing agencies throughout the project lifecycle.

RFIs and Technical Communication: Generate and respond to technical RFIs; draft written communications documenting code interpretations, testing outcomes, and design clarifications. Communicate changes internally to project management, engineering, and field teams.

Field Support: Provide technical field support through final completion, including troubleshooting water intrusion or performance issues, forensic evaluation of failures, and directing corrective work.

Mentorship: Mentor project managers, assistant project managers, and field leadership on enclosure performance requirements, testing protocols, and code compliance practices.

Skills and Qualifications:

Experience: 10+ years of industry experience in building enclosure, curtain wall, glazing, or specialty enclosure contracting; OR prior experience as a building envelope / enclosure consultant with a strong technical testing background.

Division 7 & 8 Expertise: Deep working knowledge of Division 7 (Thermal and Moisture Protection) and Division 8 (Openings) systems, specifications, and performance standards.

Testing Standards: Hands-on experience with AAMA/FGIA and ASTM testing protocols for air, water, and structural performance of fenestration and enclosure assemblies, including field testing coordination and witnessing.

Code Knowledge: Strong command of applicable building and energy codes and their application to enclosure systems; experience supporting code compliance documentation and AHJ interactions.

Project Management: Proven track record managing complex technical scopes on large commercial projects — planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout — while coordinating multiple stakeholders and deadlines.

Problem Solving/Analysis: Strong analytical and root cause analysis skills; proven ability to diagnose enclosure performance issues and implement effective, documented solutions.

Communication Proficiency: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; able to convey complex technical concepts clearly to contractors, designers, consultants, and field crews.

Computer Literacy: Proficient in Microsoft Office and construction management platforms (e.g., Autodesk Construction Cloud); familiarity with reviewing engineering calculations and test reports.

Personal Characteristics:

• Embraces challenges, viewing them as opportunities rather than obstacles.

• Inspires and motivates, fostering a positive work environment.

• A trustworthy, reliable individual who motivates trust in others.

• Networker adept at fostering meaningful conversations; an active listener.

• Ethical in all professional dealings, demonstrating emotional intelligence.

Physical Demands:

• This role involves frequent standing, walking, and climbing on construction sites, including access to elevated work areas for testing and inspections.

• Must be capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.

• Manual dexterity for handling tools and testing equipment.

Work Environment:

• The role involves exposure to outdoor conditions and active construction sites.

• Noise levels may be high due to machinery and equipment.
