Job Description
Job Summary: Responsible for assessing, formulating plan of care, implementing and evaluating nursing care for assigned patient population. Is a leader and collaborates with the healthcare team to promote a world class environment.
Essential Job Duties:
  • Professional Standards
  • Performs patient assessments in a systematic and organized manner to provide high quality care and safe outcomes. The nurse will exercise their autonomy when needed to make decisions in the best interest of the patient.
  • Education and implementation of the patient's plan of care will be shared with the patient and the family.
  • Communicate and collaborate with multidisciplinary departments to coordinate the appropriate care for the surgical patients in the most efficient and highest quality manner.
  • Follow all relevant federal requirements, AORN standards, the Joint Commission standards, and hospital policies and procedures, when caring for the patient and performing other tasks.
  • Participate in perioperative services nursing and hospital wide Performance Improvement activities.
  • Provides direction and collaborates with team members to support a healthy work environment.
  • Maintains high patient and family satisfaction by providing care that is based upon individual needs.
  • Pursue lifelong education, by staying current on professional changes and best practices within the health care system.
  • Be a community leader and represent the nursing profession beyond the walls of Good Samaritan.
  • Maintain yearly hospital wide and unit specific competencies.
  • Be responsible for your FTE hours.
  • Maintain financial responsibility in helping to stay within the unit's budget.
  • Coordinate with charge nurse and manager on plans for all new staff orientation.
  • Be a resource leader for the perioperative service department.
  • Actively participate on the unit-based council.

Secondary Job Duties:
  1. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education -- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred
Licensure -Registered Nurse license from the Indiana State Board of Nursing. Some areas may require a current and valid driver's license
Experience -- Graduate of RN Program
Basic Life Support; Advanced Life Support; Pediatric Advanced Life Support
Reports to: Nurse Manager and/or Director of the department.
