Location: USA | Field, Texas - within the Corpus Christi, San Antonio, Houston, Austin area. 

Starting rate: $27 - $30 per hour

Responsibilities

Summary

The Maintenance Technician is an employee who functions at a high level of capacity in several key areas, including acting as turn leader (where appropriate), having expertise with all equipment - plus troubleshooting, being available to assist in other shops, performing preventive equipment maintenance, and handling certain administrative/recordkeeping functions.  Must be mechanically inclined and able to work independently. 

This is considered a safety sensitive position therefore will be subject to random drug testing as required.

This position requires traveling to numerous locations in the business on a weekly basis.  Distance and amount of travel will depend on location of selected candidate.  Valid Driver's License required.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Apply material (product) and use all relevant equipment as required

Follow all standard operating procedures regarding equipment and applications of product

Regularly perform specialty applications, e.g., iron ladles, steel ladles, tundishes

Assist in the rotation of product inventory and minimize usage of consumables.

Be proficient in all aspects of equipment operation, maintenance and troubleshooting

Understand all equipment operations; keep equipment clean and in working order

Perform advanced preventive maintenance of all equipment

Perform advanced troubleshooting of all equipment

Operate as turn leader, where appropriate

Supervise work team during shift

Communicate with Service Manager regarding performance or policy compliance issues

Assists in administrative/recordkeeping functions

Record consumable parts usage and monitor inventory of parts

Complete turn paperwork and submit it as required by Service Manager

Maintain recordkeeping and field trial reports

Assist the training and development of new employees

Assist in orientation process for new hires

Demonstrate proper equipment usage and knowledge of product application

Demonstrate preventive maintenance and actively advocate safety awareness

Lead by example regarding policy compliance, standard operating procedures, etc.

Assist in emergency call outs, help in other shops, and handle special applications

Respond to emergency equipment call outs

Accept temporary fill in work at other shops, including, e.g., for blast furnaces and steel ladles

Maintain a strong focus on satisfying the customer

Maintain a professional, high profile with the customer

Assist in new trials provide feedback to Service and other managers

Assist in the testing of new products, provide feedback

Identify new sales opportunities, suggest new ideas

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Miscellaneous: Must have a valid Driver's License

Knowledge: Progressive experience in Service positions, previous steel-making or other related experience. Experienced with hydraulics, pneumatics, electricity and electronics, personal computer, and lasers. Thorough knowledge of Company products, applications and equipment for each task.

Skills & Abilities: Outstanding technical, mechanical, plus leadership/influence, performance management basics, communication, interpersonal, adaptability, ability to learn quickly and work independently, initiative, integrity, customer and quality focus, analysis and judgment/problem-solving, safety awareness and planning and organizing. Must be able to operate equipment such as forklift, gun, caster equipment, wire feeder, laser, SEQUAD, Mag-O-Star, etc.

Physical & Mental: Ability to lift to 50 pounds (or more in certain shops). Must be able to withstand the physical pressures of constant standing, walking, bending, climbing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, sitting, extremes of hot and cold, as well as carrying, lifting, pushing and pulling heavy objects. Must be able to gather data, draw conclusions and handle a high level of stress. General: May require working rotating shifts, emergency call outs, and overtime. Must wear all required safety gear. May be requested to travel.
