What is the difference between Steel Castings vs Steel Fabricators?

AspectSteel CastingsSteel Fabricators
CredentialsTypically require welding certifications, metallurgy knowledgeRequire welding certifications, blueprint reading skills
Work EnvironmentFoundries, casting facilitiesWorkshops, construction sites, manufacturing plants
Industry UsageHeavy machinery, industrial componentsStructural frameworks, bridges, buildings

Steel Castings involve creating metal parts by pouring molten steel into molds, focusing on detailed, complex components. Steel Fabricators assemble steel structures from raw materials, often welding and cutting steel plates. Both roles require welding skills and are vital in heavy industry, but they differ in processes and end products.

What are steel castings?

Steel castings are metal components that are formed by pouring molten steel into a mold where it solidifies into a specific shape. This manufacturing process allows for the creation of complex shapes and sizes that would be difficult or impossible to achieve with other methods. Steel castings are valued for their strength, durability, and resistance to wear, making them essential in industries such as construction, automotive, railroad, and heavy machinery. They are used in a wide range of applications including gears, valves, pumps, and structural components.
