Are you a passionate fitness professional who is ready to serve as a leader and make a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals with Parkinson's disease? We are seeking a dedicated Rock Steady Boxing Instructor who is able to design and implement progressive exercise programs tailored to varying stages and abilities of Parkinson's disease. This role requires strong leadership, compassion, and the ability to create a safe, motivating, and supportive environment that empowers participants to improve their strength, balance, mobility, and overall quality of life.

The ideal candidate will inspire confidence, foster community, and guide participants through evidence-based, non-contact boxing and functional fitness exercises while promoting safety and individual success.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Chronic Disease Program Instructor at The YMCA of the Roses maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in evidence based programming.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Leads disease prevention and management programs with a high level of efficacy; understands program content and the importance of following protocol for evidence based programs
  2. Develops and maintains positive relationships with volunteers, members or program participants, and colleagues at all levels of the organization; helps participants and families connect with each other and the YMCA; and encourages parent or caregiver involvement.
  3. Promotes program to community partners and seeks to establish relationships with community organizations for the purpose of expanding the reach of our programs.
  4. Engages with YMCA members and staff to promote disease management and prevention programs internally for employee wellness.
  5. Conveys information on wellness programs and schedules and as appropriate refers program participants and families to other programs.
  6. Maintains records as required (e.g., attendance, progress reports).
  7. Maintains HIPAA compliance
  8. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  9. Attend required staff meetings, educational workshops and certifications.
  10. Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
  11. Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current CPR Pro/First Aid/AED Certification
  • 1 evidence based or health awareness program certification/training:
    • YMCA Disease Management or Prevention program certification: Diabetes Prevention Program, Healthy Weight and Your Child or LIVESTRONG at the YMCA
    • National certification: Rock Steady Boxing, Pedaling for Parkinson's, Delay the Disease, etc.
    • National education program training: Alzheimer's Association, Freedom From Smoking, etc
  • Has at least 1 year experience with delivering evidence-based programming and performing the associated data collection or 1 year experience working as a YMCA Wellness Instructor or Personal Trainer
  • Experience working with special populations (older adults, individuals with mobility impairment, etc)
  • Complete the following list of trainings/certifications within the first month of hire:

  3. Principles of Member Health and Wellness Certification
  4. Listen First Training
  5. Orientation to Healthy Living at the Y
  6. HIPAA Privacy and Security Certification
