Senior Accountant / Accounting Manager

Insurance Industry
Tampa, Florida Area (Hybrid 3/2)

Established publicly traded insurance organization with operations across multiple states. The company offers a collaborative environment, strong leadership, excellent benefits, and long-term stability within a growing insurance platform.

This position offers a hybrid schedule with three days in office and two remote.

Position Summary

The company is seeking a Senior Accountant / Accounting Manager with direct insurance accounting experience. Property & Casualty insurance experience is strongly preferred; however, candidates from Life, Health, Specialty, or other insurance sectors will also be considered.

The key requirement is a strong foundation within insurance accounting environments. Candidates without insurance industry accounting experience will not be considered.

This role will support core accounting, reporting, and close activities within a multi-entity, multi-state insurance operation. Exposure to statutory reporting, premium accounting, and reinsurance accounting is highly valued.

This is a hands-on role and does not include direct staff management responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform month-end and quarterly close activities within an insurance accounting environment
  • Prepare and analyze journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
  • Support GAAP and statutory accounting reporting processes
  • Assist with financial statement preparation and reporting requirements
  • Work with premium accounting data, insurance reserves, and related accounting activity
  • Support reinsurance accounting processes including ceded and assumed activities where applicable
  • Assist with statutory filings and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Partner with internal departments including actuarial, underwriting, claims, treasury, and external auditors
  • Maintain strong internal controls and compliance with accounting policies
  • Participate in process improvements and reporting enhancements across accounting operations

Desired Background

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • CPA or CPA-track strongly preferred
  • Minimum 3โ€“7+ years of accounting experience within the insurance industry required
  • Property & Casualty insurance accounting experience strongly preferred
  • Experience within Life, Health, Specialty, or other insurance sectors may also be considered
  • Understanding of statutory accounting and reporting strongly preferred
  • Exposure to premium accounting and reinsurance accounting considered major pluses
  • Experience working within publicly traded or regulated insurance environments preferred
  • Strong Excel and financial systems skills required
  • Ability to operate in a detailed, deadline-driven reporting environment
