Job description

Summary:
The Statistician role is responsible for optimizing operational performance and identifying opportunities for improvement. The incumbent leads efforts to organize and conduct research on activities both within Southwest Transplant Alliance and the broader transplant community for the purpose of providing evidence to support best practices across all functional units. The Statistician works in collaboration with various departments to analyze available data, identify factors that influence performance, and provide recommendations for changes and associated key performance indicators (KPIs) to optimize the organization's overall performance in order to save and enhance more lives.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Communication
    • Present research findings, statistical analysis, evidence-based recommendations to organizational leadership, stakeholders, and external partners in a clear, concise, and actionable manner.
    • Develop and oversee the preparation of research reports, manuscripts, presentations, and other dissemination materials to communicate study outcomes and recommendations.
    • Deliver educational presentations to community groups, professional organizations, and industry stakeholders to increase awareness and understanding of organ donation and transplantation research.
  • Time Management
    • Conduct comprehensive literature reviews and stay updated on the latest advancements and best practices in organ procurement and transplantation.
    • Assist in the development and implementation of data collection tools, survey methodology, instrument validation, and outcome measurement design to capture relevant information.
    • Propose and design research projects using both laboratory, environmental, and community-based methodologies, ensuring milestones, deliverables, and regulatory requirements are met within established timelines.
  • • Attention to Detail
    • Perform data cleaning, validation, quality assurance, and management activities to ensure the integrity, accuracy, completeness, and reliability of research datasets.
    • Identify statistical, operational, regulatory, ethical, and methodological risks associated with research activities and provide mitigation strategies.
    • Utilize epidemiological and statistical methods and software to analyze available data, identify factors influencing organ donation rates, and identify key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Problem-Solving
    • Develop and implement statistical models and algorithms to predict organ donation outcomes and optimize resource allocation.
    • Collaborate with internal teams to assess current practices, identify areas for improvement, and develop strategies to optimize organ procurement operations.
    • Conduct through evaluations of organ and tissue procurement processes, identifying opportunities to increase efficiency and improve performance.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and evaluate interventions aimed at increasing organ donation rates and improving processes.
    • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to design and conduct research studies that address knowledge gaps, identify best practices, and contribute to the scientific knowledge base in organ procurement and transplantation.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned that are consistent with the purpose of the role.

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Public Health, Health Services Research, Data Science, or a related quantitative discipline is required. Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or DrPH) is preferred. A combination of alternative education and experience may be considered in lieu of the formal education requirements. A doctoral degree may substitute for up to 3 years of required experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in statistical analysis, healthcare research, epidemiology, biostatistics, predictive modeling, or health outcomes research is required.
  • Experience within healthcare, transplantation, organ procurement, public health, or clinical research environments is preferred.
  • Current Driver's License is required and maintained with an acceptable driving record as defined by STA policy.

Compliance:
  • This position is classified as OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Category III. Employees in this role are not routinely expected to perform tasks that involve contact with blood, bodily fluids, or other potentially infectious materials.
  • While exposure risk is minimal, employees are expected to follow organizational safety policies and report any potential exposure incidents immediately.
  • This role requires compliance with HIPAA and all confidentiality standards related to patient, donor, employee, and organizational information. Employees must safeguard all confidential information and disclose it only as permitted by law and organizational policy.
